Interesting! I was thinking about this yesterday after having bought Pink's new album (it was $5.00 at Amazon as an MP3 download, but be careful to avoid downloading the "clean" version - horror! ;D ). Actually, I was wondering how well she has done in terms of sales, and how well it will go this time, vs. Adam's first week sales in May. Pink has had quite a long career, and quite a bit of adversity. She is another artist who is not easy to swallow for more narrow-minded people. Pink has said many times, if she relied on album and singles sales she would be starving. She gets it from touring. Starving? haha How long ago did she say this and was she exaggerating a little? Come on - look at rankings on charts in context! Look at the week an album is released or who they are competing with. An artist can sell 300K for an opening week and still not have a #1! If Adam would have released his album last week, TSP would have finished out at #5 on the BB chart. From the year 2000-2008, Pink released 5 albums and every one of them has gone AT LEAST double platinum in the US alone and her international numbers are massive! lifetraveler: True, Pink's extensive European, South African and Australian legs of her 2006 tour was held in arenas.

Uhmmmm..................Nooooo!!!!!!!!!!!No touring with Adam www.opposingviews.com/i/entertainment/kris-allen-dropped-rcaWinning American Idol does not mean as much as it used to. Season 8 winner, Kris Allen has been dropped by RCA. Now Kris will be forced to try and make records on his own and I'm sure he thinks he will have a ton of success but the way to make money in music these days is to go on tour and I think he and Adam Lambert should go on tour. Together. It would make money and they could sell more records just at shows then they would ever do so traditionally. They would make a very good living. As it stands right now, if Kris just decides to do something on his own he is going to get lost in that whole white guy with a guitar thing from the last few seasons of Idol where everyone just kind of feels like the same person. Ugh!!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! (Can you imagine the fan fights in the audience??) ETA: That article is a joke, isn't it?

[/IMG]
Will it hit #1 only because fewer people are buying and therefore the number required to hit #1 is lesser then usual???? Of course, if that's the case, we'll never hear that about P!NK. Sorry, just had to snark. I LOVE HER. Was suprised to actually know that this newest album will be her lst #1.

Starving? Pink has been killing it for years. This may be her 1st #1, but she is a hit machine with a "greatest hits" album to prove it. She isn't underappreciated, she is a huge star on every level.
I think she is supposed to open around 225 to 300K. Not bad

Wasn't the point that there is little to be made off record sales? Many artists who have sold millions, from Lyle Lovett to Janis Ian to the Rolling Stones, have said they made their money from touring, and didn't earn back their advances from the record company.

Pink has had to fight her way with record producers ,etc. to be herself and to make her own music.. She has quite the life story of rebellion and hell raising too. I love Pink ,but IMHO she's never had the fame of a Madonna, a lady Gaga, RIRI, Xtina in the U.S. market. Not to say that she isn 't loved here ,she is .she just never had the OTT fame. She has always sung to the beat of her own drummer, from what I have read and from watching her biography on TV.. She really is more popular in Australia,NZ Germany ,etc. In many ways Her individuality and refusal to blend in& conform reminds me of Adam.I've never thought Adam was like Gaga, who is also a very unique &does her own thing artist .I always thought of Adam more like Pink because there seems to be more honesty more from the gut songs.. they seem more real ,more willing to show themselves.
