Yeah if this is the direction this show is going in (and it seemed like it would have to with Nicki) I'm glad Adam isn't involved.

Haha, how funny! That's what comes of it when they choose this kind of judges! It serves them right!

As a devoted (probably typical) Idol viewer for 11 years, this is a total turn off. I think Idol has a big problem on their hands!

Whether this is more staged than not - or not staged at all - it's not good. I think of Adam's comments on - what was it, "Teen Mom"? - and what I think is that this is NOT the direction he would like to see American Idol go in. So, I'm happy it wasn't Adam sitting where Randy or Keith were, although I think Adam INSTEAD of Nicki or Mariha probably would have been a good panel.

It may just be my personal projection, but I am imagining Adam reading about the cat fight and drinking a toast that he was half a world away in China performing to millions instead of having to sit thru that idiocy with a polite smile on his face.

I'm not a big believer in the old adage "all publicity is good publicity." I think this kind of drama will not draw viewers. Complete turn-off and takes ALL the focus off the contestants. There has already been criticism that these shows are not about finding talent anymore and if it was indeed staged, I think they're moving in a completely wrong direction. Frustrating to me as I really do love the idea of Idol and other talent competitions. Too bad they've become chaotic, bloated and charmless IMO.

Totally agree with everything that is said here.
What speaks for 'staged; is that somebody must have routed that tape to TMZ.
But a slightly alternative suggestion is that somebody within the producer team is seeing that the ship is going down the way it is and sees this leak as an opportunity to trigger the drastic change that is potentially called for, the breaking of one of these contracts, probably Nicki's.
But that would mean that you have a split going through the management team, between those that want this drama and engaged the judges accordingly and those that don't want this direction.
Of course, this is just speculation, but it does make some sense to me.
And as all said, in retrospect we have to be glad that Adam is not in Keith's seat right now.

Martin Short and Anderson Cooper discussed the Minaj/Carey "feud" this morning. Martin Short talks about the "lack of elegance" on TV. Gotta say I agree with these two guys:
For my part, I think Adam is fortunate not to be part of the Idol mess. With all of the focus on the diva wars, I think he might have gotten lost in the shuffle. And poor Keith Urban is probably thinking that he should have asked for more money before he signed up for this trainwreck.
It's too bad. Idol used to be a fun show. Yes, the contestants are most important, but the quality of the judges definitely has an impact on my enjoyment of the show. And the judges have been pretty bad since Season 9. I hope somehow the show can get back on track.
