So, I have a friend who's an opera singer (like Angelina, lol). She lives in Vienna. I showed her the vid of Adam singing Soaked (the one from the Glam Nation Live DVD). She literally said: "He's trained, it shows. Damn, what a voice! Wow!" And the she said: "But what's with the make up and the clothes? It's off putting." And I was like: But hell, I'm happy. She was impressed with his voice. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] Now I can say to all my friends: "Miriam says he's amazing, so check him out." 8-) 8-) 8-)
If she asks for another sample, may I recommend To me (and to Angelina) it is almost akin to an opera aria. In a recent chat with her I said, "That rendition of that song could get a standing ovation on Broadway - hell the Met -- any day of the week" and she agreed wholeheartedly. Yes, she is a Glambert and therefore not totally objective, but.... damn! What a performance!
I agree wholeheartedly too. See, I'm an instrumentalist, so I know at least a little bit about music. I LOVE to sing too, but I'm completely untrained, so most of the time I have no idea of what I'm doing (Adam has inspired me to seek some singing lessons in my city, though, but that's a story for another time). So I know music, and I love to sing, but I know next to nothing about vocal technique and that sort of stuff. But even someone like me, who doesn't know a thing about professional singing, can see that this performance is out of this world. It's just... I have no words. That last note is like the last note in an aria, isn't it? He didn't do that the other two nights, did he? I will definitely show that video to my friend. I didn't show this to her today because we didn't have a lot of time, but it was next on my list.

albiku ... you are such a great salesperson! I laughed ... everyone knows there is no makeup and no costumes in opera. LOL. lol Yeah, I kind of laughed too. I guess she wasn't expecting that from a mainstream singer. And I will keep trying to sell Adam, you can be sure of that.

I always say that his concerts are "theatrical performances"; followed by "best live performance I've ever been to see!".

I didn't show this to her today because we didn't have a lot of time, but it was next on my list. That last note........ yeah. He did it in Kiev, but it was notably flat. He did it in Moscow and it sounded good, but he didn't hold it as long. He also chose not to sing it at a couple of concerts. I asked Angelina about it because the note itself, a D5, is wicked high for most tenors to sing in full voice, but not particularly high for Adam. He sings it quite often, most memorably perhaps in the live version of Feeling Good. He can, and does sing in full voice significantly higher than that live. She explained that because this song is structured like an operatic aria, it puts the highest note right at the end when the singer has been singing with all their intensity and strength throughout the song and is most likely tired. I guess like doing a sprint at the end of a marathon. Mind you, Freddie NEVER sang that final D5; not live or even in the studio version. That is a pure Adamism, and it is breathtaking. As for you being an instrumentalist now interested in taking voice? You go, girl! I, too, started with instruments, but when I chose to take voice lessons, it connected me with music in an even deeper way.

I agree about Ben Folds, and I'd say "Zak and Sara" is a good starting point. I'd add that if you can pull off rock, Adam Lambert's catalogue is a gold mine.More on site... [/blockquote] I'm not sure what that means. Anyone???
I interpret that as saying, "If you can handle it vocally, just about everything that Adam sings would make great audition songs." ("catalogue" in music means a collection of songs. i.e. "Because Adam is a high tenor with great power, his voice is perfect for Queen's catalogue."
Thanks, cassie.
