But no one had heard the song yet. If he had done it during the recording procss, as Gaga had asked him about, it would be a simple rewrite from the writer, Gaga! I don't think at that point he was aware of how difficult it would be with radio. I don't think he really realized the potential difficulties with radio until they were unable to get play with FYE and had to switch to WWFM and the AMA's put the nail in the coffin so to speak. I don't think Adam truly understood the difficulties with radio until it came to the point of actually promoting the songs so I'm not surprised that at the point of recording Fever he made that call and from that point changing it would have been backtracking. I think he made what concessions he was willing to make by promoting alternate interpretations of WWFM and IIHY but he was probably not willing to go so far as to change pronouns in Fever. It is easy to say in hindsight that it would have been an easy change to make but I think it was all about the fact that at the time of recording he thought that he could make that choice without repercussion but the reality was that radio was not ready to accept open expression of his sexuality. My original comment was that today, if Fever was being released, I think he would have changed the pronoun to "you." It is a general pronoun, no sex is mentioned. Would work for straight male or female singers or gay singers. "you" was the pronoun Gaga suggested. After 3 years, I think Adam would have had enough RL experience in the US Pop/Radio industry to realize the change was necessary. But this is one of those points that is kind of useless to argue about since there is really no correct answer! We will never know, "water over the bridge." This conversation is closed.

My research last night on music in China from blogs and news articles indicates that music overall is having difficulty and not just foriegn musicians. Every 12 years there is a major political overhaul (I'm not sure if this is just about cultural items such as music of if it's bigger) and the change over this time is happening this year Sept-Nov. Many of the big music festivals have been canceled for the year because they didn't get all their government approvals, a major festival organizer hasn't paid their bills in others. If you read past the comments on auto insurance you can find some background in this article english.cri.cn/8706/2012/05/07/2203s697774.htmThey've been trying to change their copyright protection on music from 50 years (not enforced) to 3 months and this effects Chinese artists as well as foreign artists. Chinese artists are surviving on ringtone sales and the bigger known names are getting paid to do corporate events. There doesn't seem to be hardly any mention of concerts other than the festivals. Lady Gaga just started another world tour, she hit Korea and Hongkong but not mainland China. Her music was blacklisted for not applying for government approval. TV shows are nationally controlled and they decided last year there were too many talk and variety type shows so they cut from 120 to 60. Adam is performing on a survivor and a new one. www.gg-art.com/news/newsread/artnews106706.htmlIt all seems rather jumbled. They are trying small ways to earn money for musicians thru search engines where you register to hear the music but you don't have to pay, it's paid by advertising. www.knowledgeatwharton.com.cn/index.cfm?fa=viewfeature&articleid=2628&languageid=1 They are trying "gift" concerts where as you watch you press a button and send flowers of different types worth different amounts of money (this is how I'm interpreting this article - chinamusicpod.com/2011/05/30/business-review-6rooms-online-live-show-wrap-up/)There seems to be unlimited potential with the rise of China's middle class but still major push back against foreign influence which works against it.

[/IMG] Does someone have a video of the Rove LA? It aired today, didn't it?
I didn't say PD's I said DJ's. There is a difference but there were at least a couple of DJ's that I personally heard on the radio saying that they were bothered by the song because knowing he was gay they knew he was singing about a guy. That being said the female DJ's on with them called them out on it. See the problem is that for some STUPID reason straight guys confronted with the reality of a gay male love interest immediately can't help but think about "OMG THE BUTT SEX". I have often wondered if they see a straight couple holding hands or kissing do they immediately picture them fucking? Or suppose they see a couple of old folks together do they picture them fucking? Yet they don't see that it is their own imagination that is the problem instead they complain that the gays are "shoving it down their throats" which I have always felt was a most unfortunate choice of phrase for their problem. I'm confused about the contestant that sang with Adam. Has he already been eliminated and is not a finalist? Yes, unfortunately, the guy Adam sang with is not one of the final 4. The 4 standing on stage now has a chance to win. I can't believe this guy didn't win Whut?? They have an Arkansas voting block in China?? :dunno:

And see, I never thought of IIHY as a romantic song. It could relate to friends, family, and yes, romance. But it has so many meanings. Anyway, the song has done really well, so apparently no problem with it!

I never knew that PD's were grossed out by IIHY -- that's absolutely ridiculous. Does a singer necessarily sing only to his/her sexual preference? That's just so stupid. And, as for ass, I always felt that was a safe word cuz of it's association with the word donkey. Too funny if Adam substituted ass for donkey.....My donkey!! And, I'm still chuckling over "tresping" -- it would make a great concert T-shirt. And, I love the trespassing necktie that the fans gave Adam -- I wonder if he'll actually wear it. He should, I think he could make it work somehow. I am unaware of one case of a PD being "grossed out" by IIHY -- if someone was, they probably have some unresolved issues with sexual identity. IIHY got broad support by CHR and HAC stations, and got a lot of adds all across the US. There was once a fear by radio management that if a radio station played a song by an openly gay artist, they would get boycotted resulting in loss of ad revenue. FYE and WWFM proved that was not the case. For example, WWFM and IIHY were and are regularly played on 3 stations in Tupelo, MS, in the heart of possibly the most anti-gay part of the US. Adam has many challenges with getting airplay -- but I really do not believe this is because he is gay. IMHO it is because he is not a proven hit maker. Many, many, many other artists have the same problem.
