Tomorrow, a dance pop track by Adam Lambert will be impacting radio. In one week RCA will release a Trespassing EP with 4 remixes from Trespassing.

The release is also being supported by an Official Lyric Video – and inexpensive way to build some buzz about a new track on YouTube.
Why do I call this combo “brilliant”?
Well, start with the single. After 3 years, and 2 albums, a single written by Adam Lambert is a US radio single. (Technically, it is not Adam’s first single that he wrote because the Billboard remix of “Aftermath” was released as a charity single and Adam co-wrote that track, too.)
This single could be the outstanding track from the album. More than one music critic has pointed out the beat as being reminiscent of Michael Jackson or Queen – two artists not usually mentioned together. (I have a hard time listening to the song without strutting around my home or office I know I am not alone.) But for me, it is the outstand track from the album because of the message.
In the Billboard Magazine Track-By-Track Review of Trespassing, Jason Lipshutz wrote:
"I don't need no sympathy, I won't cry and whine/Life's my light and liberty, and I'll shine when I wanna shine," Adam Lambert sings on "Trespassing's" title track, which is in the running for 2012's "Most Deliriously Fun Pop Track" crown. …. Lambert sports his most brilliant colors when he is oozing confidence, as on "Trespassing" and, thankfully, most of his second album.

Then add in a really good remix EP.
Many remix EPs are not that interesting. It seems like the tracks are just manipulated, chopped up into bits that are randomly repeated and a beat track thrown under it. This is not just another remix EP.
The release of Trespassing was supported by two singles – the first a mid-tempo ballad, BTIKM, and the second a nice but in my opinion undistinguished europop dance track, NCOE. Both tracks got meaningful exposure but neither became hits.
But many people know the first two singles and that familiarity is just waiting to be activated, that is converted into sales. The remixes of these two “almost hits” are better than the original album tracks and just waiting to be bought.
Put the two together and the stage is set.
I am optimistic that Trespassing has a good shot at getting real airplay and could easily outsell both BTIKM and NCOE – it is just a better song and the radio remix is very effective.
But there are no guarantees that Trespassing will get a lot of radio airplay. First it needs to get added to playlists and then it needs to be played. It is likely to be a long, challenging process.
Why is it so hard? Because it is really competitive. Commercial radio stations play a very short list of songs in varying degrees of rotation – a mix of new songs, fairly recent popular songs (called “recurrents”), and some older songs from the history of the format. Pop radio stations play. For every new track added to a station’s playlist, usually one is taken out of the playlist.

“A Time For Miracles”

Thanks to my gurl, bluenile, who forwarded this wonderful piece to me! It was posted on weibo blog (like our TwitLonger) by one of the production directors, Wangtong, of 80s Talk Show. It tells the story how Adam came to be the guest on the show and some of the behind-the-scenes touching moments. It’s quite long and the first 4 paragraphs has no mention of Adam, but a prelude.
The blog is entitled “Time For Miracles”. Before I get to the “miracles”, the back story:
Wangtong has been a fervent fan of Adam since AI8, and so is her colleague, Xiaomie, another director of the show. The news of Adam performing on the Voice China got confirmed on Sept. 23, the next day, out of the blue, Xiaomie asked, “what if we get Adam on the show??” the taping was 25th to 28th, Adam was scheduled to arrive on the 28th, time wise doable but, it normally takes a few months to schedule and confirm an int’l guest, and they only had a few days, a miracle was needed! Wangtong and her team’s motto is “nothing is impossible if you try!” So, they started to put together all the necessary documents to send to Adam’s management and use all the network connections. The girl helped with English translation was in the middle of her wedding planning, but she worked till mid-night for a few nights to get everything done in time; Xiaomie, was constantly on the phone every day, even asked some leaders of Chinese Fan Club for help. Finally, it was confirmed but it’s already the 27th! and there’s no way they could tape the next day it had to be the 29th, but the studio space was booked out to another show most of the time on the 29th! Phoned the studio, OMG! it’s available!! immediately extended the booking till the 29th.
Now, here are the “miracles”!
Miracle No.1: got Adam confirmed for the show! [img src="
Miracle No.2: only took a day and half to plan out the whole production (by the time it’s all done at mid-night, Wangtong had finished a full glass of whisky and almost a whole bottle of red wine! ;D)
Miracle No.3: took another colleague all night to “glamfied” the Chinese traditional jacket which was the gift to Adam, and the colleague got a stamp of approval on weibo from his idol --- a very well-known and respected fashion critic! 8-)
Miracle No.4: a few new employees got up & close working side by side with Adam --- what an unforgettable experience for them! (one of the girls took home a towel used by Adam! :D)
Miracle No.5: all the lucky Chinese Glamberts to finally get to meet him in person!
Now, some behind-the-scenes memories:
--- walking into his dressing room, Adam saw the fruit tray and went, “yay!”, immediately put one in his mouth, then, ran to see the stage (he was so giddy and pleased with the stage).
--- sound check took a long time...he wanted it to be perfect!
--- told the band members to take off their fancy jackets, said their T-shirts looked more rock & roll! (says the Man of Jackets --- okay, this is my own commentary
)--- sang Tsp twice, getting off the stage sweating like a pig, took off his jacket and got a bottle of water from the vending machine. (unlike most of big stars, he didn’t ask for specific brand of water or drinks)
--- even though he was supposed to be the star of the show, Adam was very considerate to everyone, from the host to that 80-year-old lady.
--- the host chatted with him a little bit, couldn’t help himself yelling out loud: “you are so nice! I like you!”
--- after the taping, Adam shook everyone’s hand then happily got in the car dressed in now his favorite jacket.
--- Wangtong and Xiamie thanked the fans on their way out, then they hugged each other and cried! (happiest tears!

Radio Requests Hints
1. Local requests. You should call, e-mail, message or tweet your request to your LOCAL HAC and Pop Station at most 1x per day. Send in a Mediabase Request up to 2x a week.
2. Other requests. If you listen to a distant station online, make sure you include this info and the URL in your request. Spamming and excessive requests or requests from listeners who have no way to listen to the station can have the opposite of the intended result.
3. Be patient. Most radio DJs cannot play a song that is not on the station’s playlist but requests show a PD that there is demand for a song.
4. Niceness counts. Adam fans have a reputation for being polite and courteous to DJs, PDs and station personnel. It matters.
5. SAY THANKS! If stations in your area are already playing "TRESPASSING" let them know that you appreciate them and how much you LOVE the song.
