IdolsNow @idolsnowADAM LAMBERT's "Trespassing" re-enters the Hot Singles Sales chart at #3. @adamlambert I wonder if this is because they shipped a lot of the CD EP?

Next week is supposedly one of the biggest retail weeks in the US, including CD sales, but first let's see how this week's sales will fare on the Billboard chart, according to HITS Daily Double:
"Syco/Columbia's One Direction is expected to sell a teenage riot of 525-575k on their way to #1 this week....
The Weeknd from XO/Republic is on track to move 95-105k; the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn 2 ST from Chop Shop/Atlantic should bite off 85-90k; and the latest from RCA diva and The Voice star Christina Aguilera is set to rack up 75-80k.
while Interscope's Lana Del Rey is set for 65-70k with her EP......."

Well, maddie, I think that paragraph about sums up the music industry right now. It is a teenage world. One only has to look at the 1D and XTina numbers. Wow! Where is her fanbase? At one of the busiest times of the year, she is set to sell what Adam sold at one of the slowest times of the year! :-/
ETA: And that's with a good single that is being played a lot on radio and with The Voice visibility! Yikes!

So it seems as though the tweens are actually buying music instead of stealing it?
It also tells me that an appearance or two on TV is not going to mean much for Trespassing sales.

Here is the top 10 best-selling albums in the world, as of last week:
01 Adele - 21 8,562 000 02 One Direction - Up All Night 3,057 000 03 Lana Del Rey - Born To Die 2,471 000 04 Coldplay - Mylo Xyloto 2,076 000 05 Taylor Swift - Red 1,931 000 06 Justin Bieber - Believe 1,900 000 07 Mumford & Sons - Babel 1,834 000 08 Gotye - Making Mirrors 1,720 000 09 Maroon 5 - Overexposed 1,628 000 10 Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball 1,537 000
As you can see, 3 of 10 are teen Pop Princes & Princess, they sure have the lion's share in the world of music sales (of course, aside from Adele. Let's face it, Adele is an anomaly!)
Although, debuting at #10 on Billboard Hot Digital Songs by selling 103,000 copies of Your Body the first week, and #34 on Billboard Hot 100 Your Body is currently sitting at # 84 after 8 weeks. Xtina should come very close to or a bit higher than Adam, we'll see....
When the final year end report comes out, I'll post it here as well, maybe with more supporting data.

It also tells me that an appearance or two on TV is not going to mean much for Trespassing sales.
"A recent Nielsen study shows that teens pay for music. They actually pay more than any other age group, reports Billboard."
source: www.music4point5.com/blog/newsflash-teens-buy-music/
Study shows, "College students between the ages of 18 and 24 are more likely than any other American demographic to download music illegally", but there're also counter studies like this one, "People who pirate buy 30% more music than people who don’t pirate, according to study". (source: dottech.org/84810/people-who-pirate-buy-30-more-music-than-people-who-dont-pirate-according-to-study/ )
Depends on what type of TV exposure/appearance and what scale, the sales bump can vary from none to huge leaps, nevertheless, TV keeps him on people's radar and his profile up ---- perception is everything in the show biz.

maddie, while the top 10 for the world is interesting, I'd like to see the top 20 or so albums for the US so far. Do you have that, by any chance? I just ignore Adele now! LOL!! ETA: I think Trespassing sales will be somewhere around #150 in the BB albums of 2012. Not as good as FYE but in the realm of thousands of albums released......

In terms of US sales only? or US origin artists only? I might have to do some digging and cross-reference, but I should be able to come up with both lists.
