So, basically we're excluding the likes of Adele, Gotye, One Direction, Coldplay, Mumford & Sons.....?

I'm not sure you can exclude those people. Billboard won't.

No, BB doesn't list the sales, which is why I'll have to do some digging and see what I can find. I'm hesitant to post anything from UNOFFICIAL sources like fan boards when it comes to US sales. Because it's impossible to get accurate sales numbers for every country, so, imo, charts like "United World Chart" provide a close estimate for worldwide sales whereas, in the US we do have SoundScan and the year-end report should be out soon. But, I do have the official Mid-Year Top 10 albums, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

2012'S TOP 10 ALBUMS (year-to-date sales in millions):
1. Adele, 21 (3.67) 2. Lionel Richie, Tuskegee (0.91) 3. One Direction, Up All Night (0.90) 4. Whitney Houston, The Greatest Hits (0.82) 5. Various artists, Now 41 (0.71) 6. Carrie Underwood, Blown Away (0.60) 7. Luke Bryan, Tailgates & Tanlines (0.58) 8. Nicki Minaj, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (0.56) 9. Drake, Take Care (0.55) 10. Adele, 19 (0.54)
Well, we all know the landscape has changed a bit since then.

Ok! mys*&@^#r, here is what you asked for, not top 20 though, the best I can find is top 10... seems "top 20" isn't a very popular concept with "charts folks".
Top 10 SoundScan Albums 2012 (as of week ending Nov 11)
01 - 4,150,000 - 21 - Adele 02 - 1,749,000 - RED - Taylor Swift 03 - 1,349,000 - UP ALL NIGHT - One Direction 04 - 1,077,000 - BABEL - Mumford & Sons 05 - 1,034,000 - TUSKEGEE - Lionel Richie 06 - 989,000 - BELIEVE - Justin Bieber 07 - 920,000 - BLOWN AWAY - Carrie Underwood 08 - 898,000 - TAILGATES AND TANLINES - Luke Bryan 09 - 867,000 - THE GREATEST HITS - Whitney Houston 10 - 751,000 - NOW 41 - Various

ATRL.NET is "an interactive music community where you can discover and share the latest pop music news, charts, and videos, discuss topics, write blogs.....", in short, another forum, but it has been around for 13 years, and from what I've learned personally, definitely a playground for music fans of variety interests and a good source for charts info. And, just in case, I've cross-referenced with other reliable/official sources in regards to above 10 albums SoundScan sales.

Thank you SO much! That is exactly what I was curious about. Even the #10 album hasn't sold 1 mil. And Beibs with 30 mil followers will just be slightly over a million. Selling albums is tough! OK, I am going to stand my prediction that Trespassing will make Top 150! Thanks again, maddie!
