Q3 Thank you again for starting this thread. It has really helped me deal with my anxiety. I'm emailing back and forth with my family as well. But, so nice to connect here. All you who have been sending the good vibes I cannot tell you how nice it is to receive such caring sweet messages. It really does make it all easier. Wow, the wind just picked up big time. Radio is saying 50 miles/per hour now here. Massive 60 mph gusts bending the pines over. Mon Dieu I am sooooo happy I am in this brick building. It's like a little motley party here. 5 Days ago I was worried about my sister who lives in South Africa because of her cat 1 hurricane. She and her children were fine but it has been storming madly there too. C.R.A.Z.Y. Wind just opened the heavy front doors of the motel. Thinking I need tequila. I need a drink too, and I'm as far away from the storm as I can be. lol I'm sitting here, watching the live cams, reading your comments, and I'm like: Sending positive thoughts. The universe will take care of all of you, I'm sure. Chapf, I love your smilies. You're so talented!

The latest Weather Nerd update tells us what to pray for:
First, hope for Sandy to move as quickly as possible toward the shore. Perhaps it could manage to make landfall a few hours before high tide. That’d be good. Second, hope the peak storm surge at the center of Sandy won’t be as severe as might be implied by the remarkably destructive surge hundreds of miles away. This is the “hive, not a pimple” effect you may remember from Hurricane Ike. I don’t think it will be enough to meaningfully spare the threatened areas in this case, but we can always hope. So, hope for that. And watch those tidal gauges.

Lots of positive thoughts and prayers going out to all of you in Sandy's path. Living in Houston, I've been through a couple, along with some tropical storms, and they are no fun and can be unpredictable. We stayed home during Hurricane Ike a few years back b/c we were supposed to be on the clean side of the storm but that changed at the last minute and we were on the dirty side. We faired pretty well b/c we were able to stay home and take care of the damage immediately plus we lived in a very small neighborhood with homeowners who were skilled in lots of areas, thank goodness, and they drove around asking if they could help. It was great b/c we had a huge leak in our family room, which was carpeted at the time, and someone came by and was able to get all the water out, pull back the carpet and give us a couple of fans to use. I think I used EVERY towel we owned soaking up the water until the storm stopped. Thankfully, I had LOTS of towels. LOL
I have a dear friend in Lorton, VA, right outside of DC. We were college roommates. Worried about her but she felt like they would be OK. She was just hoping their sump pump didn't fail!
So glad to have this thread (thank you Q3) so we can stay connected, as much as possible, with all of you. Please check in when you can and stay safe.
Hugs to all!

My sister used to live in West Chester, so I'm sure she's happy to be back home in Oregon right now.
This thing is such a monster and I will be continue to send all good thoughts and prayers to all in the path of the storm and to all first responders as well. At least our president is on top of things and it looks like everyone is as ready as possible.

AND I have a coy pond. will my fishes float out. SIlly to worry about that but they are hand fed and are my pets. I guess it's silly but still I worry Not about my basement flooding because I live in a very heavily stream area thus the name of my street "BASIN" but I don't worry about the basement but stupid fish. oh well I don't think it's silly. I think anyone with pets would understand. My kids have always let the cats go outside to play. They don't think it's fair to the cats to make them stay in the house. I remember sobbing in front of the cat food in the grocery store when one of my cats didn't come home. Thankfully, he showed up after 3 days.
