It's hard to tell from a demo if the song belongs on tsp musically. Lyrically, it definitely belongs. It's in the same vein as tsp and ool:

Hold On is like OOL but different. It is equally powerful but in a different way, maybe even more so IMO. This is Adam's rally cry. It starts with a siren sound, and makes so many references to fighting (sleeves up, bulletproof, defeat us, rock n roll with the punches, lights out..) that it's hard to deny it's message is to fight back. The tone he uses, the references to "them" and "us", the battle cries in this one compared to the wails in OLL. And he's trying to bring people out of the darkness to fight together: "they say we are helpless and alone" and "they can't come between us"...Wow. Sure this could be made into an upbeat dance track-isn't that what everything is supposed to be?- but it would be sad, and maybe impossible to downplay the serious message this song makes.

How come every time I hear a new Adam song I think about the motion picture event that needs to go with it. His songs are events, not just songs.
I like the song and LOVE his lower register too. The only part I found out of place was toward the end... was that the dubstep part? Don't mind light use of that, but in this song it didn't seemed called for. JMHO and love the song. So great to wake up to a new song today - ear candy indeed, licks lips:-)
ETA: Looks up at Kay: yes totally agree. VERY much an anthem song of breaking free and fighting back. But even more pointed than Outlaws of Love to me. Probably the moist pointed lyrics to date in that vein... well same vein as OOL but different, more rebellious.

Holy crap, I just inspired myself with my own post. Went back to listen one more time and that first line that just didn't sound right as "All/I'm alone", now I think I got it:

Yes Kay, that is what I hear too. Very much an in your face and stand-up, I am/we are who we are and going to fight back and stand our ground type song.

I do not know if there is a formula, logic, science or politic in choosing songs that go into an artist's album... all I know is that Adam's Album #2 is better than Album #1 in terms of my personal enjoyment. And these songs that got cut ... maybe someone else will be the one to make this into a hit ... like the way Adam did to Pink's WWFM... MELDING DESIRES |
