When I saw Michael Buble and Drake were ahead of Taylor Swift on BB200 Year-End Chart, I was like, wtf??? both of them are not even in the top 10 SoundScan US Albums Year-End Chart!! Then, I did a little bit digging and this explains....
" Sometimes, the best-selling album of the year of Billboard is different than best-selling album of the year of Nielsen SoundScan, because Billboard calculates the year from December to November and Nielsen calculates the year from January to December. "
And, Buble's Christmas was released in Nov. 2011 and sold 2,452,000 copies in 2 months in the US!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the Top 10 on BB200 Year-End Chart:
#1 Adele, 21 #2 Michael Buble, Christmas #3 Drake, Take Care #4 Taylor Swift, Red #5 One Direction, Up All Night #6 Luke Bryan, Tailgates & Tanlines #7 Mumford & Sons, Babel #8 Rihanna, Talk That Talk #9 Lionel Richie, Tuskegee #10 The Black Keys, El Camino

Yes, I think being in the top 200 is an accomplishment considering it was about 6 months sales for him. It looks like only 7 albums sold platinum during that 12 month period.

I was taken aback with Buble at first too. Then I figured it had last year's Dec sales in there! So, that means the sales period for Trespassing was May thru Nov. Only 6 months!!

Time has changed! As one of the industry publications predicated that in a few years, the worldwide digital music revenues will eventually surpass the physical LPs'.

From UKMIX Indie Albums chart some numbers for Adam's friends Vintage Trouble.
ORCH 83 VINTAGE TROUBLE THE BOMB SHELTER SESSIONS 1,269 146 515 8,130
It looks like their Letterman appearance gave them a nice little sales bump. But just so we realize how rough it is for Indie artists here's a little FYI.
The Bomb Shelter Sessions is the first studio album by Vintage Trouble, released on 25 July, 2011
In a year and a half they haven't broken 10,000 units. Sobering thought.

The other day in the news thread, Q3 and I kinda touched the subject of Kris Allen releasing an EP of 5 Xmas songs as a now independent artist. Typically independent artists sell no more than a few hundred units, a few thousand if extremely lucky, but since Kris still has his Idol following (to some extent) and 19 behind him, it would be interesting to see how it would work out for him.
Although they haven't sold much, VT seems to have cultivated quite a following in the UK, which was their strategy in the first place to hit Europe first before their home country, the US. They toured with Brian May and Kerry Ellis last May, then in June opened for Bon Jovi on the UK leg of their tour. Their album was released on April 24th, 2012 in the US finally, and since then they have toured with Van Hunt, The Cranberries, Lenny Kravitz and Joss Stone, and are now wrapping up their opening tour for The Who in North America. Wonder how their album sales are faring in the US with all these exposure/promo? or, they will still remain a cultivated touring act like Gossip??

Kris doesn't have 19 behind him. He has new management. The same guy that has Daughtry. And he is gone from their 19R list too.
19 Recordings
Adam Lambert Carrie Underwood Casey James Daughtry Fantasia Barrino Haley Reinhart
Jessica Sanchez Jordin Sparks Kelly Clarkson Lauren Alaina Phillip Phillips Scotty McCreery
