Welcome to Adamtopia, JO! You said you are a diehard fan--how did you find out about Adam? Been here since Hollywood rounds. I lurk here and there. Was just interested in the convo last night. I love to discuss things but not a flailer. Carry on! ;D

Welcome jo What a great first post! I had to bring it over from yesterday: "Okay, I don't like to post but this subject is very interesting and I wanted to give my two cents for whatever that's worth. As a diehard fan, I have all of Adam's music in various forms but what I tend to do is only listen to the Kiev concert over and over again. I rarely listened to either one of his albums. I think Adam's voice with the Queen music is otherwordly and I can't get enough. I've often gone over, in my head, what would have sent Adam into the stratosphere after idol and I do believe it would have happened had he done things right from the start. His first mistake was the AMA's and then the album cover. I think Adam was not realizing that his voice alone is what people wanted from him. I remember Barry Manilow saying that if he had just sat there (at the AMA's) and sang a great song (WWFM would have worked), he would have blown the roof off the place and I think he was right. If he had done that and then followed with the voice front and center instead of the OT stuff being front and center, I think he would be huge right now. My humble opinion is that he did not rely on his voice as much as he did the OT look and actions to get people's attention. I think this was his biggest mistake from the beginning. His being gay certainly plays a role too but a lot of the OT in the beginning was all about the gay with the AMA's, the album cover, his GNT shows, etc. and I think it was just too much too soon for those people who still live in the dark ages, which is most of America, unfortunately. If he had taken it more slowly and built up to the more OT stuff gradually so people could more willingly accept that from him, I think it would be a different story for him right now. He would be huge because he is the most talented man I have ever seen in my lifetime and one of the most beautiful too." (for some reason, my "quoter" wouldn't work.) Anyway, I heartily agree 100% with your thoughts. I think Adam's launch was full of OOPS, especially the AMA performance and album cover, and his career would have been at a different place now had it been started differently. He did say in one interview that he had to get the feathers and glitter out of his system and he was ready for the next phase of his career. I think that becoming more "real" - I think that was his term - was that step and I think a good one. After he had his cry and downtime about the AMAs, and realizing the FYE cover was not the best idea, I think he has been working his cute little bum off to turn things around and he is slowly succeeding. Maybe that unexpected and steeply uphill climb has made him stronger, as personal disasters in ones life can sometimes do. As Kelly Clarkson sings, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." heh. ;D I think he is much stronger for it and he surely is more gorgeous every day. [/IMG] Anyway, that was then and this is now, and he/we go on from here.
I think Adam did set his career a bit back with both the AMA performance and his OT cover for FYE. On the other hand,he sure got America talking about the double standard for female artists and male artists.. Madonna and Britney kissing,OK ,JLO grinding against Pit bull OK male on male NOOOOOO. He Opened the topic of Gay singers in America. There are too many examples of male on male kissing all over TV,movies, etc.now to even note.. IMHO,Adam may have stepped on his own toes ,but he sure helped open the door for discussion , evolution and acceptance of gay/male artists &sexuality in our society..Kudos to Adam.. Remember Madonna lifting the veil on female sexuality.

Finally, I can listen to the interview! LOL at the interviewer saying she's never seen all the Hong Kong press dress in a certain way for one particular artist! Hahaha....."sea turkey" ;D Always enjoy Adam talking, and am always amazed at the effect he has on people. Kudos to Adam
Yep, and I never considered his "take" on the Madonna/Britney kissing until he brought it up. It was like a real "shake my head where have I been" moment. Another moment for me with Adam was when he was talking to PFLAG about his coming of age and being "horrified" to realize that he was different. My heart hurt so badly for anyone having to face their differences and feel afraid. That was it for me. Although I don't shout to the rafters about my love for Adam Lambert I have gotten extremely vocal about equal rights -- even at the feed store -- YIKES!

I am not going to re-post all the quotes and I certainly don't want to spend all day talking about the AMA's but I will say this, I doubt that the AMA's would have had Adam perform in the pimp spot no less if he had "played it safe". I know many of you think it was a big mistake, I didn't think so. Also, Adam is quirky, "I'm a freak" as the song goes. He is, and always has, been true to himself and who he is. I don't want him to change that and I don't think he ever will. One of the best things about Adam is he never does anything the same way so we will always get something new from him, and that is exciting. He will never bore us with putting out the same type of material over and over again.
