Adam Lambert, Jordin Sparks Pay Tribute to Whitney Houston, Donna Summer At 'VH1 Divas'

It was a confluence of glitz and glamour, spikes and suits and all manner of bare-chested male dancers. In other words, Adam Lambert's Sunday night… And VH1 Divas 2012, which featured the American Idol season eight runner-up as host to a lineup that included such performers as Kelly Rowland, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Ledisi, Keri Hilson, Ciara and Pitbull along with Idol alums Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson.

While the talent turn-out may not have been quite on the level of Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin or marquee names of that ilk, it nonetheless paid tribute to some of the greatest voices the pop charts have ever known, including the late Donna Summer and Whitney Houston and the very much alive Madonna and Debbie Harry.

All hail The Glambert! Because that’s exactly what Adam Lambert is — super glamorous and fabulous all rolled into one. The amazo singer was not only the host of VH1 Divas last night but he also performed a couple of numbers on stage to a very happy audience. As expected, we got some grade-A Glambert fashionable outfit changes all night. We’ve put together all eight for you in the gallery below, but we can’t help but discuss some of our most special looks. Topping that list is Adam’s grey hounds-tooth suit worn while hosting. Sounds demure? Not a chance. Adam spruced it up by adding metallic spikes to the shoulder. We also have his ‘Crusades’ chic and Top Gun trendy outfits. The latter was a jumpsuit, obvs, but zippered and nipped and tucked to make a huge fashion statement. The former was a tunic with patterns reminiscent of the Medieval Crusades. “Never Close Our Eyes” was one of the most underrated crowning achievements of the year and the perfect melting pot of all the different shades of Adam Lambert’s music. It is not only a pulsing techno/club raver, but an intelligent ballad as well. Unlike other party tracks that travel into a seedy message of impending doom, this presents the point of view of an all-night partier who isn’t crying out for help, but just wants to enjoy every moment he has. There’s a subtle touch of romance in the lyrics as well, as it is not “my” eyes being referred to, but “our” eyes instead.
