I, too, have read and heard many people (critics, etc) who were much more critical of the movie than Adam was. It's about the money--need big stars to get initial financing and box office. HBO has a puff piece about "the making of...les Miz," that makes a big deal justifying and glorifying the casting. You either like Hooper's style of direction, or you don't. Some critics don't like the music at all--no matter who sings it-- I question their sanity, but... Don't think it was sour grapes on Adam's part at all. Musicals are part PF his wheelhouse, and I bet he knows many great singers who can act, but aren't "box office" famous, per se. I think Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe did not benefit from the loss of physicality (from Hooper's director-style) that is part of some of their other But critics are paid to be critical. I just hate when one artist disses another so publically. This just feels like something Clay Aiken would say. And I hate that :( ??? ??? Sorry, but I think that's rather a ridiculous comparison. For starters, Adam did NOT name any names of the people he was critiquing. He was giving an honest response to a film. He was not randomly attacking anyone, but responding to an issue he obviously has a lot of feelings and knowledge about. Actors, singers, directors and producers are hardly thin-skinned and certainly KNOW they're going to get critiqued from the moment they take on a project like this. I'm sure it was debated at length when Hooper decided to make the very risky move to have the actors sing live. I'm sure Hooper knows more than anyone as he had to review hours and hours and HOURS of dailies to get the performances they ended up using in the final cut. Just Jared reported that Anne Hathaway said she did her "I Dream A Dream" scene 20 times before they told her it was enough. She still said she thought her performances was, "Eh." (She's nuts!) I think Adam largely considers this a political issue in his world. To stay silent and politely give props that he doesn't mean would be a betrayal of his beliefs. He felt he needed to stand up for the professional singers in this instance and he did.

I guess I don't get the angst or worry or whatever. Almost everyone acknowledges that Adam can sing, so his opinion as a trained singer should count for something. His comments were measured and fair despite the headlines. I see keeping it real, not self-sabotage here. I see it gaining him more credibility, not less. He could have said, it sucked, which he didn't.
It is so annoying that when people have an educated opinion that tweaks large egos, suddenly they are full of themselves.
Or if they are bland(see Britney getting moved off X-factor panel), they are considered non-newsworthy. Huge cultural flaw/human nature/"reality TV" flaw in my opinion. Wish it was a fatal flaw.
I think Adam and company seemed to give another rocking performance for NYE, 2013. Onward and upward. Happiest and Healthiest New Year, everyone.

Going back to your post holst... I was surprised that he would post such a public statement especially as he is so supportive and positive...wondering why ?
It is very surprising, as he usually looks for the best in EVERYONE. I wonder if he or someone in his circle auditioned for this. He is such a nice person, and so new to the business. I just don't want to see him burn any potential bridges.
so you think his opinion was based on him being disgruntled that he or one of his friends didn't get a part in this movie? Adam has been in the inudstry for 10+ years, I doubt he's so petty that he'd give a harsh critique simply because he felt slighted in some way. Adam is nothing if not 100% authentic and honest. If he said the movie suffered from mediocre singing then I'm sure it did, to his ear. if giving an opinion burned bridges then there would be no artists left working in Hollywood.

[/IMG] [/IMG] I haven't seen Les Miserables, so no comments. Thanks, Lifeisnow2!
Gorgeous... I think Adam was upset, because singers like the above are never asked to be in a Hollywood musical.HW goes for popularity of actor rather than great voices. I don't blame Adam..Thanks for posting this.. What an astounding performance. Hugh Jackman ruined the song . Adam held a mirror up to HW and their bottom line Quantity rather than Quality. The singing in the movie left me furious.. Just sayin. Of course now everyone will go see the movie to prove Adam wrong. He just angered the movie industry... Bottom dollar.. they actually owe Adam for the PR.
OMG that was so beautiful As a total lover of opera, it was a joy to hear this man sing and it would be a joy to hear Adam sing this as well. There should have been NO compromise on this song. No wonder Adam was upset

This... IMO Adam has been getting great press since the Diva performance and the Les Mis comments are going to bring out the haters again. Still wonder why [/IMG]
I love Adam and I agree with him on Les Miz,There is a bit of self sabotage in my opinion.. I've noticed it a number of times, especially when he's doing really GREAT.. These comments will not help him get movie roles.. Hollywood is unforgiving.. I feel really bad that Adam felt the need to say anything, but i am defending him on every blog and newspaper comments section.
nahhh ... the whole thing is nothing but a WIN!!!! His name is making the rounds, the pros will agree with him, the haters will hate,...but again - HIS NAME IS IN THE PRESS!!!and its not even a "scandal', just a professional opinion expressed very eloquently. WIN!! WIN!!! WIN!!!   I need the vids from Bali!!!! Happy New Year everyone!!!!

At least he expressed his opinion on something he knows alot about. I thought it was interesting when I heard an interview with Mr. Jackman that the majority of the discussion was not about his singing but about the way he transformed his body. I don't think there's much of an agrument that everyone in the film can act, it's the singing that is being discussed. Seriously, how hard would it have been to cast actors that are excellent singers? Win, win for everyone.

His challenges for getting a movie roll are more related to his lack of acting experience, his height and physical proportions, and because he is famous as Adam Lambert. BTW this is not a Hollywood picture. It is a UK film from Working Title, Tom Hopper is a British director, it was filmed in the UK and a bit in France. "Hollywood" does tend to support films that employ a lot of people in "Hollywood". That said, Hollywood is not a monolith -- most productions are essentially independent projects. ** Anyway, his career was over in Feb 2010 when he said.... "If only it weren't for Susan Boyle! I'm happy for her success, but that album is terrible. "Wild Horses" is the one that made me laugh the hardest. I just died when I heard it, I was crying with laughter. It was the most horrendous, sacrilegious treatment of that song!" I don't understand why people think that Adam is dissing anyone with his comments. He praised their acting. He endorsed going to the movie. He didn't think their singing was up to par for that musical. Why is that a "dis" if it is true?
If I watch a football player on Dancing With the Stars and say, "He's a great football player, but he is no stellar dancer" am I dissing him? If I listen to an accomplished author read a passage from her latest book and say, "I love her writing, but she is no actor. They should have gotten a professional actor to read her novel on tape," am I dissing the author? People with great talent be it as actors, singers, athletes, authors, designers, doctors or teachers, work tirelessly for years perfecting their craft. The fact that they are not as talented in another craft is to be expected. They haven't poured years of blood, sweat and tears into it.
Do you remember the great basketball player, Michael Jordan? Thought by some to be the best ever to play the game. Well, at one point, he decided he didn't want to play basketball any more. He wanted to be a professional baseball player. After all. He was an accomplished athlete. Yeah, well, that career change didn't really work for him. His incredible skills in one game did not transfer over to incredible skills in a completely different game. To say that Michael Jordan is no major league baseball star is not a dis, is it? j/s

I still say the big Hollywood producers and actors are not going to care what AFL thinks of their movie. WAT? Adam Levine dissed Les Miz?
