Adam has probably seen Les Miz in the theatre with the music presented as the composers wrote it. The play is known for the beautiful music that was written, and it was sung beautifully by talented singers as you have just heard. I understand where Adam was coming from. If he had not seen the play as it was presented in the theatre, he wouldn't have been able to compare the music that was in the movie. As he said, he has high standards for that opera.

It is very surprising, as he usually looks for the best in EVERYONE. I wonder if he or someone in his circle auditioned for this. He is such a nice person, and so new to the business. I just don't want to see him burn any potential bridges. This... IMO Adam has been getting great press since the Diva performance and the Les Mis comments are going to bring out the haters again. Still wonder why [/IMG]
I love Adam and I agree with him on Les Miz,There is a bit of self sabotage in my opinion.. I've noticed it a number of times, especially when he's doing really GREAT.. These comments will not help him get movie roles.. Hollywood is unforgiving.. I feel really bad that Adam felt the need to say anything, but i am defending him on every blog and newspaper comments section.

I love his honesty and I don't think what he said about the singing in this movie is 'bad' or 'mean-to-be negative' it is simply telling the truth from one of the greatest vocalists
maybe to him, when it comes to opera it is not just about entertaining like he should be keeping in mind that this is a HW movie and is some actors who are not actually opera singers doing singing for one who grown up with this musical would inevitably have high expectation for this show if the singing is not so great then of cuz it makes him cringe and distracts him from appreciating this show
He was saying this in public becoz he wanted his opinions to be heard

Even if you're not a trained singer, someone's bad performance of music that's special to you can be really offending. Which is really all Adam was saying - some actors' treatment of songs he likes offended him. He wasn't being mean. And he DID give credit to the actors who did well.
A couple of weeks ago, one of the finalists on X Factor, a 13-year-old-girl, sang one of the top songs of all time from one of my all-time favorite musicians: Imagine by John Lennon. The girl completely missed this classic song's simple message of peace and community and made the song all about "listen to how good I am," oversinging and adding lots of runs and melisma.
Now, I realize the kid's young. But I was so angry about the way she manhandled Imagine that I didn't calm down about it for days. So I can relate to Adam's critique of Les Mis. I'm not famous, so no one cares what I think about a performance. But poor Adam is being crucified by certain elements for speaking his mind. More power to him! I love his directness.

I still say the big Hollywood producers and actors are not going to care what AFL thinks of their movie. Of course...we do...but not Hollywood. I think it's just all these online media sites that post his every word so they get hits! Anyway, AFL has a right to his opinions and to tweet out to his followers. I don't think he was being mean and hateful. Last I'm saying anything about this, to me, non issue.

One more thing - or actually two.
I rather take this news cycle which is related to music and singing than nail polish or hair colour.
IMO movie industry favouring acting and casting 'betraying music' is not the way to go. The emphasis should be on the music when doing this kind of score. Not everybody has the talent or training for the music in Les Miz. Why sell the audience short when there are many ways to do it better? I expect this side of the story to come out too, though maybe not as big a way. Also when people talk about this there must be some sane people who get it, who understand the bigger picture (ie that it was not about dissing actors) despite media sensationalizing his tweets.

I, too, have read and heard many people (critics, etc) who were much more critical of the movie than Adam was. It's about the money--need big stars to get initial financing and box office. HBO has a puff piece about "the making of...les Miz," that makes a big deal justifying and glorifying the casting. You either like Hooper's style of direction, or you don't. Some critics don't like the music at all--no matter who sings it-- I question their sanity, but... Don't think it was sour grapes on Adam's part at all. Musicals are part PF his wheelhouse, and I bet he knows many great singers who can act, but aren't "box office" famous, per se. I think Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe did not benefit from the loss of physicality (from Hooper's director-style) that is part of some of their other But critics are paid to be critical. I just hate when one artist disses another so publically. This just feels like something Clay Aiken would say. And I hate that :( Well, Adam didn't name names except for the ones he thought were good. It's not as if he said, "Hugh Jackman's singing made my ears bleed!" He just stated, accurately, that some of the cast were clearly hired for their acting rather than their singing, and he found it distracting in a show that really does require good voices to be effective. But he didn't slam any one actor by name. His criticism was general rather than specific.
