I used to wonder about this and try to respond. Then I realized that the best response was to ignore these people. If someone has decided that they do not like Adam or approve of him because he is gay, an online comment is not going to change their mind. Once people form an opinion, it is hard to change. The longer they hold that opinion, the harder it is for it to change. Adam could donate $5,000,000 to Hurricane Sandy relief and there would be negative comments about it because it came from Adam. Just the way it is. But many celebrity performers are fascinating/polarizing and they are the people who become icons. A mixed blessing but a blessing. It’s because Adam’s an easy target; so obviously different, he attracts the attention of the feeble-minded ‘commentators’, various self-proclaimed experts on all possible subjects, internet loud speakers who possibly cannot muster a complex sentence in RL…; Adam is a perfect target for the pathetic spurting they manage to squeeze out of their sparse brain cells. They just can’t miss the opportunity to appear like they are able to form a coherent thought, an intelligent comment… They feed their low self-esteems by planting their so-called opinions all over the net, achingly illiterate and limited as a square mm… What ultimately feeds them is managing to provoke a reaction; it gives them a sense of victory and they embrace it as a final proof of their immense wisdom. So, involving oneself in a discussion with these internet leeches is a no-no. Also, I think reporting their comments, bringing them over here, angsting about them, is a no-no as well. As it happens, Adam obviously could not care less about these orcs ; if he did, he never would have performed with Queen, or commented on LM they way he did. I honestly do not believe that he thinks all publicity is good publicity, or that it was in his mind when he made the comments. It is just that he refuses to silence himself, to limit his actions, reactions and thoughts because of these people… He poked them right in the eye and predictably so, they went berserk. How unusual. Except that he does, at times, silence himself. And he does make choices to limit his responses. Remember when Nicki Minaj had that bizarrely awful performance on that awards show (maybe it was the AMA's)---when asked what he thought about it, he was so kind and diplomatic. From recent interviews we also know that he has a whole lot of opinions about the new AI judges panel. But he has chosen to keep pretty quiet. And he does this all the time when he is asked his opinion on things. For all his talk of not having a filter, he actually has a pretty good one. Which is why I found his choosing to tweet about Les Mis so unusual. Obviously, the singing in the movie really struck a nerve with him. He took it personally. But Adam is no twitter novice, he knows by now just what will get attention. And he did get a lot of press out it, and at a pretty good time since he was basically leaving the country. I will never, ever read the comments under any article. If I don't see them, they don't exist It is really sad that such a positive, decent person attracts so much negativity. Where Adam is concerned, the sharks are always circling. Just waiting. And I have a feeling it is a combination of a lot of things. But the really awesome thing is that Adam always seems to come out unscathed. At least on the surface. And he is consistantly interesting, which is important in today's pop music environment.

Oh, I see it's time to 'fess up: I was so upset by the lack of his usual skillful diplomacy. I just did not want to post about it. Instead, I bitched and whined via many PMs... I so agree with you that he has a remarkable filter. But, as my darling Vivilite pointed out to me, he is not a rock, he has his dark side, he sometimes doesn't use his filter... There can be two possible interpretations as to why he didn't: one is for press attention, which I don't agree with, but I don't completely overrule it... The other is that the movie really struck a nerve... a nerve of the kid who saw it when he was only 8 and who knows how many times since then.... and a nerve of an artist who wants his art, the one of singing and music, appreciated in an opera movie ( musical, or whatever it's called). But you already said all that, I'm just repeating etc. : The fact is I idealize him to fit my own needs and that is so wrong on so many levels... I need an Adam-therapist :4OMG:

[/IMG]
Especially the duet towards the end before the trials. Did you ever hear an American tenor named Henry Price? He ruined his voice early by totally going for singing with Beverly Sills. Probably should do this by PM
