What do you think the show's regular audience will take it, like are they patient enough to listen to an American gay singer talking, are they gonna feel weird, or curious or interesting?
I'm not familiar with Vietnamese culture and history on homosexuality, but given the Chinese history, the general climate and the government's stance on this matter, if this was a regular Chinese language program on CCTV, Adam talking about his boyfriend wouldn't have raised eyebrows at all! After the Voice of China, Adam's sexuality is no news or secret to millions of Chinese, more importantly, he's foremost famous and known for his extraordinary talent in China than his sexual orientation, plus, the people are really into him don't give a rat's about that! A Chinese friend of mine said, "some people are left-handed, some are right-handed, so what?"
Your friend's left-handed/right-handed observation is so simply put, I love it. A great way to reference a difference and not make it a big deal. It reminds me of when I asked my mom why a friend of mine was dark-skinned. She simply replied, "Because her parents are..."
