I'm guessing he was tossing and turning, too jet lagged to sleep, until dawn broke and he finally allowed himself to get out of bed.
Unless, of course, it was the other thing, in which case he is extremely talented and able to do it one handed while tweeting with the other, all while suffering from jet lag, which makes it all the more impressive!
