My 2 cents worth...scroll if you wish...I promise to take no offence!
Trespassing! Gay anthemic? hmmm Adam has freely stated he has lots of double entendre's in this album and he has claimed somewhere [help?] that this was a gift to his community/brothers. I had to come back to the lyrics and really see if there is so much to note, sexually, and frankly, I think there is. I am posting some of the sexual stuff here...I do not include everything and yes, some of it you can argue has other meanings but I am choosing things that sensitive souls could easily be made uncomfortable with...and that would seem to be particularly appreciated in the gay community...Don't forget, ANYTHING sexual, that is said or indicated by Adam, AUTOMATICALLY is interpreted as GAY sexual. This is not good or bad, it just is.
1. Trespassing
...the largest letters other than the title on the 'title' page of lyrics from the CD are:
wait til ya get a load of me
2. Cuckoo
I'm cocked and I'm ready to go...
tonight we're takin over the town'
gotta get out of this straitjacket
3. Shady
pretty much the whole thing
4. Never close our Eyes
n/a
5. Kickin' in
the sweetest seeds make the best treats [very polysemic]
am I about to do a three?
[singing about doing drugs is probably the next taboo after gay sex]
6. Naked Love [title]
lose control
get lucky tonight
take it off and try me on
I know he makes the claim that this is metaphorical but they are explicit sexual lyrics by a gay man.....the whole song. I know it seems rediculous but there you go....many here have said this song would not be released because of the title...sigh...Adam knows all this. He must have had his reasons.
7. Pop that Lock
Adam has claimed this one is the most 'gay' of them all and full of gay innuendo and insider terms. I assume the title is particularly sexual but do not know the urban meaning.
I'm takin you to school
get tall
the key to your release
don't care if you don't keep it
don't care if you leak it
the whole thing actually
8 Better than I know myself. n/a
9. Broken English
Connect the neck to what's below
commin in clearer when we get down
iceberg just the tip
10. Underneath
This is probably one of the scariest of all....and has garnered loud swell of approval/liking when he has sung it the few rare times:
such a beautiful release, you inside of me...
11. Chokehold
I would agree that the lyrics are not particularly 'gay' in any way but they also touch on a very sensitive topic, superficially. ie the sense of violence and masochism in relationships.
12. Outlaws of love
Definitely a gay anthem...no need to argue on that
The bonus songs are not particularly gay but both Take Back and Nirvana, have passages relating directly to sex and not just to love and emotions. This is the big hurdle Adam has to always jump in the US....he is 'allowed' to feel love, but when he shows it so explicitly in his lyrics he is going to run into never ending hurdles with radio. Tough tough tough.....
