IMO, Adam lost because of Gokey. His fans had an all out plan to vote against Adam. So it wasn't so much Kris' organized voters as it was the "vote against" mindset. IMO, most, if not all, of Gokey's votes went to Kris. To me it was quite obvious. Gokey's style of singing was more similar to Kris's, and the fans of Gokey were not "smitten" by Adam or his style. It was a no brainer to me that Kris won. I don't know about any organized voting or conspiracy theories, I think that is just silly. It is what it is, and Adam has done just fabulously without that AI win. eta: similarly, most, if not all of Allison's votes went to Adam, which is what knocked Gokey out. You're too nice to say that they're not "smitten" by Adam, while the fact was they hated him, because Ryan/AI put Adam and Gokey together there on stage before he announced Adam went thru to Finale. They're so sure Gokey should go to Finale with Adam. Either way, IMO Adam was/is the legitimate winner of season 8. Why? because even if Gokey was with Adam on the finale and he won AI8, Gokey would face the same problem Kris' facing now, he had to see Adam's going places and left him behind. Win it or not, Adam's at where he should be. Sometimes, I felt sorry for these FOOs, they wanted their idols to win (which I don't blame them) and have the braging right as the winner. However they didn't realize after the coronations, real life will hit hard and facing the fact that non winner's more successful than the winner is something these idols has to endure. And then these fans are whining over the years coz their idols didn't get the respects and recognitions these fans felt they should get. :dunno: |

Me too! ;D They are AWESOME! They play Adam's songs all day every 20 - 30 minutes. So may songs from Trespassing album. And I heard WWFM (twice) today as well. That's totally amazing! :Clap: :Clap: :Clap: In addition, I like most of the other songs they play on this radio. I hope this radio will stay and play Adam. It could bring new fans, IMO. :D |

Maybe just testing the sound, warming up the voice a little bit more... He also did that before his entrances when the band was playing. I had a couple of thoughts about that. The first is that I noticed a couple of premature entrances (OK guys quit giggling about Freudian slips) which he masterfully covered by playing vocally with the line as if he meant to do it that way all along. Maybe I am all wrong on this but the one I remember best is one of the AOBTD entrances. The other thing I thought about was it is a good way to keep the pitch certain for the entrance. He really was doing it for TSMGO after the very uncharacteristic pitch issues in Kiev on the opening of that song. He was solid on all the performances after that. Cassie, do you have any feedback on these ideas? I have always thought it was checking the mic sound and checking his pitch. I have also noticed that after a few times when Adam started TP about a half step lower than the key called for, now, as well as the rhythmic opening, Brian also incorporates the opening pitch into the intro. |

We have talked some lately about demographic and who does Adam appeal to. Grown women, young girls, gay guys ... fans of good vocals, fans of fierce sexy angels ... I am going to say instead that Adam's appeal is cross-demographic ... he appeals to people who are secure with their shit. It's like geezlouise said: Adam embodies sexual liberation in his very being. It doesn't matter what he wears or what he sings, whether he has an weird song, a gay liberation song, or a song that is sonically identical to what everyone else is singing. No one is fooled. All can see. The good news is that for those who connect, Adam is recognized almost at once as if he is an old friend or even an alter ego. Here you are! Where have you been? The task is to keep getting him in front of people so that these moments of recognition can happen, one fan at a time. I don't think he lends himself to productization. It is all about comfort. There are some fans that have admitted that they have had to grow or change their thinking re: Adam. Some fans are still not comfortable with everything he is. Imagine then, those that are made uncomfortable and are really not ‘secure with their shit’ as Junie put it….. And it isn’t just ‘the gay’. He makes many gays uncomfortable. Adam will never be the gay poster boy. Guys like NPH or Anderson Cooper own that. Adam is the ‘gay sex’ poster boy. So.. you take all of the people that are afraid of ‘the gay’ …add all of the people that are made uncomfortable by obvious displays of sex, then add to that those that are not secure with their shit…. Plus the people that don’t like his voice or his music and voila…. You have a ton of people that will never be Adam fans. And he can’t ever change this. He can’t not be gay. He can’t not be sexy. He can’t not be Adam. |
