I don't disagree with you. In fact I agree. But I've always wondered what "safe" in this context actually meant. Safe from what? Safe from the excitement of watching a passionate performer? Do most people really enjoy music that doesn't get the heart pumping & the blood rushing? Singers where "nothing is going on" to quote AFL himself? I guess they do - or Idol viewers do anyway. Just glad I'm not one of 'em. Safe is inside your comfort zone. Blood pumping is not comfort...or easy. Music and sounds you are used to don't make you think and expand like Adam's. Maybe a leap but this so reminds me of my experiences at the pounds, where we have been looking for a dog to rescue. Even when they are in small, unfamiliar, concrete spaces with scary dogs barking nearby and nothing to call pleasant, many of these dogs require coaxing to be taken out of there kennels and into a visiting room. Once inside they learn that the unknown isn't so bad and relax, wag their tail, play and cuddle happily. But staying where you are is always easier. I personally think Kris won because he fit what young girls were looking for. They have certainly proven their voting power all these years since. And to use another dog reference, Kris was the cute, slightly pathetic puppydog and Adam was the powerful, full grown, skilled pack leader. Who do you think they were more comfortable with? Reading back to front as usual... quite an analogy Kay !

We have talked some lately about demographic and who does Adam appeal to. Grown women, young girls, gay guys ... fans of good vocals, fans of fierce sexy angels ... I am going to say instead that Adam's appeal is cross-demographic ... he appeals to people who are secure with their shit. It's like geezlouise said: Adam embodies sexual liberation in his very being. It doesn't matter what he wears or what he sings, whether he has an weird song, a gay liberation song, or a song that is sonically identical to what everyone else is singing. No one is fooled. All can see. The good news is that for those who connect, Adam is recognized almost at once as if he is an old friend or even an alter ego. Here you are! Where have you been? The task is to keep getting him in front of people so that these moments of recognition can happen, one fan at a time. I don't think he lends himself to productization. EXACTLY!!!!!

For those asking about Allison, she will be performing at The Troubador in West Hollywood on January 26. Calendar link www.troubadour.com/calendar/Delta Rae there, too, but it's sold out. Damn. Just noticed Shoshana Bean at The Troubador the same night as Allison. She was on the Broadway Unplugged bill with Adam -- the night he sang Heaven onTheir Minds. I'm not sure if they ever performed in Wicked together, but they might have.

Last I read Allison was a backup singer for the The Voice winner and she started a new band. Allison has started a new chapter! She is front girl for a new band . I hope it is Rock! I will be seeing her on 1/26 as an opening act at The Troubadour. I am very excited! She was my 2nd favorite, Season 8! BTW, she is not back up for Cassidy, she was working with Rickey Minor as one of his singers on Leno!

Maybe just testing the sound, warming up the voice a little bit more... He also did that before his entrances when the band was playing. I had a couple of thoughts about that. The first is that I noticed a couple of premature entrances (OK guys quit giggling about Freudian slips) which he masterfully covered by playing vocally with the line as if he meant to do it that way all along. Maybe I am all wrong on this but the one I remember best is one of the AOBTD entrances. The other thing I thought about was it is a good way to keep the pitch certain for the entrance. He really was doing it for TSMGO after the very uncharacteristic pitch issues in Kiev on the opening of that song. He was solid on all the performances after that. Cassie, do you have any feedback on these ideas? I agree 100% with this. And when he has done it on these Trespassing one offs, I believe he is testing his sound and sending signals to his sound guy, especially right before Trespassing in Vietnam.

However, still weird to me that she is singing backup for anyone.
