The votes from Los Angeles counted. I wasted a ton of time analyzing the Adam v. Kris vote. My conclusion, Kris had more votes and it probably was not close.

I also believe that if all of America had one vote, Adam would have won. And if it was a global contest, Adam would have won. That is not how Idol works.

1. Only about 29 million people in the US watched the 2009 final. That is out of about 325 million US residents in 2009. So less than 9% of Americans watched.

> Viewership is heaviest in the Southeast US and upper Mid-West. (The most conservative parts of the US.)

2. Only a small percentage of viewers vote. Text voters cast many more votes than phone voters. In 2009, the exclusive mobile voting supplier was AT&T which was skewed toward the SE US.

3. Generally, people in the Mountain and Pacific time zones are less likely to watch Idol, and also less likely to vote.

4. Kris' fans were very well organized and had local voting campaigns.

There were about 100 million votes. If Kris got 55 million votes and his voters voted an average of 100 times each, that is only 1,000,000 voters -- in other words only 0.3% of Americans could have voted for Kris. (I think the average number of vote could have been much higher, and the number of voters is much lower.)

When Idol says, "America voted and...". it is not true. But it makes good copy and sounds better to say there were 100 million votes vs. 1.2 million people voted.

5. For both AI7 and AI8, online buzz favored the Idol who came in #2, Winning the online audience is not enough to win Idol.

since digging idol history here, one question: anybody knows why he wasn't happy with Feeling Good performance?

he? Adam or Simon?

I think Adam was very happy with his performance, just look at that cheshire cat grin on his face after he finished singing. This is the type of singing that Adam is extremely good at, no one could touch that performance. The only one that didn't get it was Randy, IMO.
I have said this before, but it was perfectly done in true Rat Pack style, and I think Simon and Paula got it for sure, if no one else did.
