The winner of this year’s Most Outstanding Versatile Performance by a male vocalist at Stir Cove goes to….
Adam Lambert, hands down. And the season has just begun!
The words I use hardly do justice to the extravaganza that I witnessed Thursday night. Lambert, as we all know, was the runner-up in the eighth season of American Idol, and it leaves me wondering….where is the winner? Who WAS the winner? Lambert has more talent in his pinkie finger than I could obtain with eons of intense training.
The show began in an eerily seductive blaze of lights, dancing, costumes, instrumental and vocal talent that is worthy of Broadway or Vegas. I was sucked into it from the get-go. Then Lambert gave us a hint of the versatility that is Lambert. There were ballads, acoustics, techno-disco, torch songs, and even the obligatory Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana type numbers. He showcased his tonal quality, his vocal range, his sensual/erotic come-ons, and a whole lot of raw talent.
He is backed up by a fine group of musicians and dancers, including his choreographer and musical director. There isn’t one slouch among them, and they pull off one heck of an entourage when occupying the stage together.
I had seen Adam on Idol just a time or two – and my favorite number of the entire season was his rendition of “Ring of Fire” – which I believe earned him thumbs down from Simon Cowell. Well, Mr. C, he did a shortened version again Thursday night, and it was nothing short of fantastic. The thing I gleaned the most from this 1 ½ hr event was that Lambert is doing EXACTLY what Lambert wants to do – and there is so much he is capable of. My companion for this show knew of Lambert, but had never seen him. In her own words, the show left her ‘stunned and speechless’.
I do hope that there is staying power for this young San Diego star – because if he’s a passing phase, it would be a total injustice to his creativity.
The predominantly female crowd was loud, adoring and appreciative. I had really pegged the audience wrong. I thought I’d see a host of 20-somethings, and much to my surprise I would say the average age was somewhere between 35-45. Shows you what I know about the American Idol enclave!
I am beyond thrilled to have experienced this show, and I encourage anyone and everyone who has a chance to see Lambert to do so. You won’t be disappointed.
Opening Thursday night for Lambert, were Allison Iraheta and Orianthi, talented ladies in their own right. Iraheta gave an extremely brief performance of what I would call ‘girly-type’ songs, and it was okay. Not fabulous, not lousy. I believe there is plenty of room for growth.
Orianthi, an Aussie singer-songwriter is probably best known as the lead guitarist for Michael Jackson’s comeback concert “This Is It”. She has already hit the US Pop Charts for “According to You” and her new single “Shut Up and Kiss Me” peaked at #33 on the Australian charts. At only 25 years old, this young lady is talented and humble. She gave a very pleasing performance and the crowd loved her. She will go for miles and miles……and not just on her tour bus.
I must say again, those who are arranging the talent for Stir Cove have done an outstanding and exquisite job of pleasing fans across the many oceans of musical offerings. Night after night I am elated to be in the crowd, whatever kind of crowd that might be.
If you haven’t got plans for your 4th of July weekend, why not go out to Stir Cove and celebrate with Super Diamond and fireworks. It’s bound to be one heck of an Independence Day revelry! The staff, the vendors, the gatekeepers and even the security always make it a great experience.

RoF has shirt-lifting tribute to AI version. Aftermath reminds me of the Upright videos. The higher the legs go, the higher the note he belts. Scorching finger lick at the end of SFW. There is a golden skull on the top of his cane during Strut. We can see what he's thinking as he suggestively swings his wang, oops I mean cane, around with that nudge-nudge wink-wink mischievous glint in his eye. During IIHY, Adam ruffles Tommy's hair. Extended version MW encore. ************************************************************* Note: Adam sang Madonna's "Ray of Light" during soundcheck. He said, "Put that in your blogs. Yeaah! Look at that audience. Put that in your blogs!"

anthrogeekPF about the livestream situation. -Security guys were really fun - they were milling about in the photographer's pit, & told us no vids allowed, only pics b/c last show one >> -of the other bands was supposedly in the bus on the web & found cellcast going on, pinpointed her location & tracked her down.... -Said it was artist mgmt prohibiting vids, but think he got that confused w/livestreaming. Most shot vids, anyway, saw us doing it, but >> -didn't care or interfere in any way. Even made sure to stay off to the sides so they didn't obstruct our view. -So was able to shoot most of AFL, tho may move around a lot b/c just wanted to WATCH!! Next time, watching, no vids. Sorry, peeps, it's AFL!

atomom: Adam's artistry is in full display: the surprise of hiccuppy gasps right before "new eyes", the sensuous tongue, one-two punch of "damn" smile, head thrown back, body drops to heavy guitar beats, a lusciously looking Adam--all make NE a visual/aural feast.
