I've seen Adam's AI performances many times, but I still remember my initial reaction to ROF. It was "Am I watching a subversive element right in the midst of prime-time wholesome family-friendly American TV??" The next thing, I was curious to see if the judges would realize how rebellious that was. They did and they didn't. I think that what made Simon so irritated, and the others a bit confused. Now if you'd ask me what was subversive about it, I wouldn't be able to answer. Maybe partly because he took such a traditional American genre and turned it inside out, stripped it of its "American" features, gave it a completely different flavor, and added such raw sexuality and sensuality to it. And still it was in accordance with the song's lyrics, so it "made sense". I don't know how to explain it, I'm rambling here, sorry .
ETA why are my fonts different than everyone else's? ???
Yes, it seems somethings are like 'sacred cows' in this country. Heaven forbid anyone shakes things up-changes the status quo. Change is not easy, nor comfortable, for many people. I feel it is even more uncomfortable for the average conservative AI viewer. Loved Adam's version!

It's been fun reading everyone's reactions to ROF. I know that Adam was criticized for not giving Dilana credit for the arrangement, but on the segment where he works with Randy, he clearly states he was not doing Cash's version, but found "another version" on the web. So, he never tried to claim the idea as his own. However, watching Dilana's version and Adam's back to back, Adam took te IDEA from Dilana, but then ramped it up to a whole new level of awesomeness. Adam has a way of sculpting the arc of a song so it has a beginning, middle and ending. It "goes somewhere." It is like the plot of a good story with introduction, build, climax, and resolution. It is one reason his interpretations are so satisfying and make you feel. ROF is a wonderful example of that talent.Adam's vocals were nothing short of breathtaking. The riffs and harmonies were difficult and performed perfectly. He had complete control of the tone and colors in his voice. When people say they were confused, perhaps they mean they were surprised? The interpretation was unexpected and original? The harmonies were not like anything many had heard in American pop music? They didn't know how to react? Laugh? Drool? Pick their jaw up off the ground? I think maybe they were stunned by what they saw and heard. Me? I was thrilled! Incredibly impressed. Transported. I didn't think, "What the hell is this arrangement doing on conservative, family-oriented, tame American Idol?" That never occurred to me. I thought, "What the hell is this guy doing on a TV talent show?! He should be performing center stage on Broadway!" Followed by, "What's the point of another nine weeks of this show? Adam is clearly the BEST by far." Obviously I was naive about how TV "talent" shows work, and the fact that they are strangely manipulated popularity contests like I abhored when I was in junior high school. When I say that Adam broke Idol for me, I mean that he not only spoiled me for all the lesser talents the show has featured, but also spoiled the mirage that the show was about finding the best incredible singers and performers. I was hoping to get your take on ROF, Cassie! This was only week 2 and even with the little bits of Adam before, nothing could have prepared me for ROF..nothing. It was totally unlike any Adam we'd seen so far and those vocals...you explained them perfectly. Thanks!! He inhabited ever nuance of the song..the shirt lift I still laugh about..the one Velveta moment of the whole performance. Adam certainly didn't need it to throw sex into the song..it WAS pure sexual energy at it finest, if I may say so myself...

I say we all band together and reach out to all Glamberts via Twitter and other Adam fan sites and make it our goal to reach $31,000 in donations to WAFF before the end of January 29 on behalf of Adam's 31st birthday! I donated to this as well as Donor's Choice before this cause was announced. Hopefully we all can give to this cause and those that previously donated on behalf of Adam to other causes can give a small amount here as well. When many people come together and give a little they can accomplish a lot!

Are we voting on this, or is it over?

Just made my donation - didn't see any PayPal option, so I used credit card. Oh well - have to trust that it's safe. Just felt good to make that birthday donation in honor of our beautiful guy. Hope it reaches $31,000.

I agree. Well Randy was a bit negative about the nail polish. But he actually commented favorably about Adam as a vocalist. I was amazed when Randy gave Adam a hug, frankly...I liked Randy Travis, even tho country is not my thang. Adam was stepping on the Holy Grail when he chose ROF and some other country mentor might not have been as kind as Randy was. It was a dicey choice and arrangement for sure, but the audience went crazy over it, even booing Simon (always a lovely sound..lol...). To this day, I feel ROF was the performance that broke Idol.

Ha! Leaving Adam on the couch until the last moments was, I am convinced, the producers little prod at us "the voters" that no one was safe... Smart Adam...when he came out with his beautifully intense and intimate TOMT ( which I loved and wished they hadn't ruined the studio version for me) I realized the genious of his strategy...no matter how much I wanted him to win, I knew in my heart he was too different, too good and just was pushing to get him to the end. I have to confess though that a bittersweet tear did fall when they announced the winner... but then it has been on and upward and I am on this "crazy train" for life
Cassie, thank you for explaining so clearly how Adam does what he does...most times I just know how his singing makes me feel. Knowing the "mechanics" makes me appreciate him even more...don't ever stop

I've always wondered what Adam was trying to say but couldn't quite get it in during Simon's rant...yeah, I was angry too. And I wasn't even a fan. Simon was vicious. But Adam DID go to Nashville after all, didn't he?..I love happy endings.. :D
