I didn't hear about Adam until a couple of years after S8, so my introduction to him was a little different; the first song I heard him sing (I think) was Mad World, then TOMT. (My hubby picked out the Idol performances of songs that he knew I would like listening to.) Then he went "I know this isn't your style, but they're pretty cool too..." and showed me ROF and WLL. I'd never heard of them (my tastes in music are quite narrow), so my "Wha----??" reaction was due to the complete change-up in persona and attitude. Sure, people adopt different fronts at different times, but that was a bit drastic!
And don't laugh at me, but when I heard the opening of ROF, the first thing that popped into my head was "Aladdin" - you know, the Disney cartoon movie? Didn't quite turn out the same. :D

Glampoon - can you please explain WHY it is "WTF" for you... the reason I am asking is that I AM confused by the original version to be frank...i.e. - there was NOTHING passionate in Cash's version, not a bit of "desire" expressed in music or singing despite the lyrics talking about it... it sounded like some polka / macarena piece...so, I can't see how Adam's PASSIONATE, almost LUSTY version is "WTF" and the original is "GOOD"...( My apologies to JC's purists here...) I am not Glampoon, but he already responded, I just wanted to add a different aspect to Nica's question : I think that J. Cashes version focuses more on the cheating aspect. Giving the impression that everything is umpta-dumpta ok, and we are playing harmless Macarena music and really underneath expressed in the lyrics, there is a secret fire burning. The fire of an affair that overwhelms the person that perceives that he FELL into this ROF. A very different aspect of the song, but I don't think it is any less valid interpretation of a secret affair than the topic Adam focused on. ETA: I know that Nica asked the question above and not Glampoon, he rather answered her. But it does not let me edit his name out. Weird. Sorry for that. Tried, but cannot delete it. System puts it right back in.

If you are not able to use the extended smilie collection, it may be because you have blocked pop-ups in your browser.

I wonder if Adam has been told about his fans donations yet? He knows how much his fans love him but you never know if people will be able to give with most people really watching every penny these days! It only takes a few dollars to make you feel good though!!I know I feel part of something bigger than myself when I do.

I've always wondered what Adam was trying to say but couldn't quite get it in during Simon's rant...yeah, I was angry too. And I wasn't even a fan. Simon was vicious. But Adam DID go to Nashville after all, didn't he?..I love happy endings.. :D I actually thought Simon was angry with Adam for that performance because he though he had really fucked it all up. And in an interview after Idol, Adam had the same fear after that performance and was relieved he got through that week. If you go back to look at comments from the time, a lot of Idol watchers did not like that performance very much and many hated it. While I agree that this performance won Adam a number of fans, it also lost him a least some voters. Two different things sometimes. Now, 4 years later, it is one of the most memorable performances in Idol history. WhatNottosing.com rates Idol performances by collecting a lot of reviews and rankings from the 24 hour period after the performance. ROF was one of Adam's lowest rated performances. It was rated 51 -- but the standard deviation σ was 35 -- this is a measure of variance and indicates a huge polarization of opinion on this song. It is the highest standard deviation ever recorded by WNTS. Here are Adam's ratings: # | Episode / Theme | Slot | Performance / Artist | Approval Rating | σ | Result |
