The Grammys are a popularity contest. Frank Ocean's album was popular, Trespassing wasn't. Nothing more to say really.
FWIW I thought Frank's album was good though.

UGH!! How do I get this to go back to Visual from BBCode? I've clicked Visual 10,000 times and it won't go! I've clicked back to original forum and it won't go. So irritating.

My only question is why didn't the two songs released as singles get a fair shake on radio? They are good! Maybe not the best on the album but certainly radio good. Given a chance I think they could have done quite well. I played BTIKM and NCOE for a friend at work who doesn't follow Adam but loved WWFM and she loved them both. Of course she said why arn't they on the radio? Who knows I said! It's not that we didn't request. I understand that more established artists just get play because of their body of work or popularity but Adam had a successful album with FYE. so why not continue to play him? It boggles the mind.

LOL!!! ITA!! I most definitely think it was transformative. It is an excellent piece of work - certainly as quality as most of those mentioned. There were simply bad calls on the marketing end probably compounded by a lot of factors (political, international, etc.) and they have radio stonewalling for whatever reason. That has nothing to do with the quality of the work. It should have been recognized. It wasn't, so it will be part of his cumulative cred. Ben Affleck is proving right now that people often rally around an artist thatis unjustly snubbed because of superficial or political reasons. My gut is this will eventually happen to Adam too. The more he does his thing, the more people will catch on and think, like those from the gala, "Holy crap! He is really good, why haven't I heard more from him?" The pop flavors of the week will come and go, but talent and determination such as his won't be denied indefinitely. I tend to agree with this. he just needs to keep doing his thing, as prominently as he can. SusieFierce I totally agree with you. I believe Trespassing was transformative and will someday get the recognition it deserves for being a great album. And the part of your post I put in bold rings true to me. Radio won't play Adam's music....and don't tell me it doesn't fit today's radio playlist....it sure sounds great with whatever else they are playing on Energy!! It makes me so happy that the legends in music like Brian and Roger, Nile, Meatloaf, Elton etc. appreciate and know that Adam is an amazingly talented artist. And, like you say SusieFierce, not just another 'pop flavor of the week'. Keep your 'eyes on the prize' Adam.

My mind has been boggled this last week. Our business plays Sirius The Blend, and Christina and Blake's version of Just a Fool has been playing multiple times a day. Awful. Her voice is really whiny and twangy. But I console myself, as others here do, knowing that Adam is successful and happy, and the great legends of the industry recognize him. And this is really just the beginning for him (and us). Am excited for new music, too - but every time he performs, it's really new music. We are really lucky to have so much to choose from - YouTubes, downloads, Liam's weekly radio program, etc. - I'm not complaining!!!

It's a tough game. Timing, talent, promotion, random luck, random public mood swings - everything has to come together at once for massive success. Then the winds can change in the next minute and the moment has moved on. If it comes together for Adam in that way, great. If it doesn't, he will be just as talented and just as brilliant and will continue to explore music and entertainment in ways that will delight those who see and hear him. I think, at this point, he will always have enough ears listening to do the things he loves best. And not many musicians and/or artists ever get that lucky!
It's early days yet. I'm excited for all that is ahead.
ETA: What's even better - my sense is that he is grounded enough (at least more than 50% of the time, and that is unusual, lol) to know this and feel grateful for the opportunities he has. He knows how lucky he is.
