Q3 comment - I correct this post and posted the link to the video that the search string went to. To post a video, use the link to the video. To embed it, click on the Director's Scene Clickboard, 5th icon from the right end of the reply toolbar and past the URL in the http: space.

Today was The Grammy Social Media Rock Star Summit. Remember, Adam did it in 2011. This person was there and tweeted about it today. It isn't really Adam news, but everything they are saying sounds so much like what Adam & DMG are doing I think it is worth reading. A mod can delete or move it if it is too OT. New artists aren't as interested in being signed by a major label/being on the radio
The current artist needs to be talented and digitally media savvy to really succeed
popularity in the US is much more fleeting than in the rest of the world
Labels are pushing artists to market their own stuff to their fans
Industry experts estimate the US is at a 90% piracy rate for music
It's a happier time in the music industry than it was three years ago as there's now meaningful revenue from streaming
Today's popular artists are the ones who are talented and charismatic. Maybe 2% of the population
The industry needs to redefine success beyond charts - branding, merch, tours
Labels care less about radio/paying radio. Who you pay off in music is changing
There's no morality in the music industry
Labels are innovating with new models for monetization and making very good margins. And there's new models to be explore
Most important change this year: the world is conversational. Projects are releases in chunks.
Artists use snippets... The product release cycle has completely changed. Constant content release
Streaming, not downloading, is the future
Artists used to be owned. Now they're partner
Views, downloads, followers can all be bought
Interesting point how no one on the panel is talking about Facebook... It's all about twitter
It's all about the quality of followers. Ten followers talking about an artist is better than 40,000 silent followers
Monetizing experiences is the way things are moving
New artists want to be the owners of their work...social media gives artists more leverage to be owner
It's hard to get educated on being smart music business man because label deals are so closeted
The complexities of the music industry/labels/contracts can decrease opportunities
Music industry doesn't like Facebook. Huge amount of pushback rn from labels against facebook's monetization
Do artists leak albums to get publicity? Panel answers yes
Ticketing industry for live experiences is a mess. The power to change is in the hands of the artists

That summit info made me feel like DMG really knows what they are doing. And, that Adam is really smart and savvy!

That summit info made me feel like DMG really knows what they are doing. And, that Adam is really smart and savvy! Yes, and besides his phenomanal musical talent, he has the communication skills very few others have. Regarding the trend to release music on a regular basis, do you think he will release a few singles ahead of an album? A bit OT, but I am still HOPING that since his summer schedule is looking very clear, there will be some Queen and Adam gigs. And also, it seems that it would be a total waste of the fabulous footage of all those 2012 concerts (done by the Queen folks) if something isn't put together for distribution. Crossing my fingers...
