With all due respect to the Grammy institution and all the nominees, I thought it was the night for the best selling music to be recognized. Respect to that; after all, we all know how important that is. The sales, I mean. They should institute such award in all domains, so that we could rightfully celebrate 50 Shades Of Grey as the highest of highs in the world literature. So, in spite of Adam's Grammy tweets, I'm not watching it ( I don't even know if there is a stream). I'm glad he's having fun and I hope that bottle of wine is a good one. Cheriemelissa, if it's any consolation, you've just taught me a new idiom: to miss the boat - 1. To fail to hit, reach, catch, meet, or otherwise make contact with. 2. To fail to perceive, understand, or experience: completely missed the point of the film. 3. To fail to accomplish, achieve, or attain (a goal). ... etc... Thanks, bb! Still doesn't explain how Esperanza Spalding won a Grammy. She hardly had any sales and still doesn't. Has that happened often? For low sales artisits to win? Or was she just a random exception? I'd say it was to keep up the pretense. Cover the tracks. Camouflage. Draw a veil over. Feign ignorance. Keep it under their hat.... I'm logging out this time, I promise!

I was accually going to say that! I feel there are some exceptions every once in a while, but I also feel that it is because they have connections! I don't know, I might be way off. I'm an outsider looking in but from where I sit something smells.

I added an ETA to my original post: ETA: Also, if it was just based on sales, shouldn't One Direction and Bieber be nominated?
In fact I just read that One Direction was #1 on the Billboard for both their albums and they were first British artist to do that. Not even the Beatles did that.

Regarding the Grammy awards, sales are more important in certain categories. For the most part, the big 3 categories (album, song, and record) need decent sales; as they should, because these are meant to be the songs and albums that connected with people in a big way. "Pop" category nominees need sales. But, categories like Best New Artst and Rock (just two examples) seem to value the artist.
And, sorry, this idea that the Grammy awards are meaningless or purely based on sales just because Trespassing didn't get a nom is crap. There are a lot of very deserving acts nominated in the all the big categories this year.

I don't get the need to degrade the Grammy's just because Trespassing didn't get a nomination. I'm glad Adam doesn't come across as bitter and jealous of other artists. He's always so gracious and supportive which speaks to his class and grace.
