Sugaree, thanks for the recipe. I still haven't tried to make it myself yet. How long does it keep in the fridge?
Jablea, I like hummus because it tastes great with any raw vegetable, so it is a no guilt dip. It is caloric, but the food value (high in protein and fiber) offsets this for me. Supermarkets sell all kinds of flavors, but I like the plain. Sugaree suggested blending in black olives once...I haven't tried it but it sounds wonderful.

Alison, I've kept it in the frig for about a week. You can also cut it in half if you want. If you can't find tahini in your grocery store, you should be able to find it in a health food store. When you open it, it might be "separated" A bunch of oil on the top and a very hard paste underneath. You have to get it mixed before using it and might have to mix it each time. I just like the taste of the home made better than the store bought. I also add a touch of soy. I also use a lot more garlic. Not good for the breathe, but for me you can never have enough garlic.
I'm gonna put this paragraph in the recipe thread too.

Topic: Sugar SNAP peasAnything with SNAP in it should be fitting for #AdamOnIdol day. I'm lifting it from Alison . Thanks to Sugaree for the hummus recipe. I'll have to write down that one strange ingredient. If I were to buy hummus in the store, where would I look? But back to SNAP peas. These are the same things you see in Chinese stir frys that you eat whole right? (you can tell my vegetable eating habits are pretty minimal) How else would I use them and should I buy them to plant in the garden?

Goooood morning Jablea. Sugar snap peas - yum. Also called sno peas. They're just good all by themselves eaten raw. Stir fry is the best way to cook them because you only want to do it for a minute, so they remain crisp. My favorite is to sautee them in chopped fresh garlic and olive oil, with a dash of lemon juice. Also good sauteed in sesame oil with a dash of soy sauce. Raw in salads is awesome. In certain types, there is a string along the spine that you have to pull off. Kind of like "string" beans. YES, to planting them in your garden. They grow great from seeds. They get no diseases and bugs do not like them. They are a cool weather plant so grow them in early spring and late summer/early fall. The sno peas that I grow need something to climb on. They have little tendrils that like to grab onto something. I put tomato cages in the ground for them. I'll be planting my seeds in a week when I get back from vacation. The only problem I have is picking enough for a meal because I eat most of them right off the plant in the garden. As far as where to find hummus in the store. Here it is usually where the specialty cheeses and dips are. Here are some brands that are available: www.wildgarden.biz/CalorieLabFlyer07-20-07.pdf

I love sugar snap peas raw because they are sweet and crunchy. Once you start eating them you can't stop.
Sugaree, it sounds as though I need to start planning my garden pretty soon. I hope my husband will have the time to help me out with the grading/preparing the soil stage. Our new property is a mess and he will be really busy with other things. We won't be able to start anything until the second week of April anyway. Count on some questions in the other thread around that time.

Topic: Applesauce
I use applesauce as a substitue for Crisco/butter in cookies and breads. Yeah I have old style recipies still. I've had a tendency to overdo it and think that no fat at all is needed and my oatmeal cookies haven't agreed with me. Best to substitute for half, not for all.
Thanks for the snap pea info. I'll have to look in the seeds section at the store. I had Kale in my salad today. I think I'll have to tear it up into even littler pieces as it packs a wallup in taste. I have been trying it grilled with the olive oil/garlic powder process and still working on how long/hot to get the vegetable cracker taste/texture down right without buring. The aspargus I do at the same time is coming thru well.

Sorry for the delay in checking in for the Weigh In. My weight's been bouncing all over the place since I came back last week - and that's on the good gym scale as well. On Thursday I was down 6 pounds so I added more points on Friday in the shape of Brazil Nuts and some of the Caribbean Rum Cake I brought back from my trip plus took a day off from the gym because both knees are killing me for some reason. Sat. morning I had swung back up 4 pounds!!! Just got back from the gym and am down again - this time to where I was before I left on the cruise.
So let's just say I'm holding at 20 pounds off since I started and am hoping for some stable losses next week. Still aiming for 50 pounds min. by summer though today I'm really having to fight temptation.
The free fruit points in the WW plan is a godsend for me because I took care of today's cravings for a DQ Blizzard by having 1% cottage cheese with tropical fruit. I out berries on my Fibre 1 cereal and always have a fresh fruit salad ready to go in the fridge - right beside the raw carrots!

Tuesday
Topic: Check-in day
Amazingly Monday I was down a pound. We'll see if that still holds true when I weigh in this morning when I pop back on board. All of February and into this month my dad has been semi staying with us. It stresses me out, stresses my DH out and I always gain weight. I was down 4 before he came and went to plus 2 at times during his stay. But thanks to you guys it's not as bad as normal.
Melisende, I want pictures. You always have great suggestions and I'm a visual person. What kind of tropical fruit?

weighing in...one more lb. lost this week, total now 13. One more week to go to make my goal of 15! back on the topic of hummus...the Sabra brand is as good as any I ever made myself. My favorite flavor, Greek Olive, is delicious with red pepper strips for dipping (and a glass of wine).

Great job guys! I have nothing to report since I abandoned tracking my measures of progress a while back. I did get on the treadmill yesterday though and am actively spring cleaning. I'd say I'm holding steady despite ups and downs in the healthy eating department.
