These Special Adam Performances threads consolidate covers and duets sung by Adam post American Idol, during the GNT and Trespassing eras. This thread is for information and discussion about Adam's performances of Dragon Attack. Dragon Attack, written by Brian May, was the second track on Queen's eighth studio album, The Game.
Lyrics Take me to the room where the red's all red Take me out of my head, that's what I said yeah Hey take me to the room where the green's all green And from what I've seen it's hot it's mean
Gonna use my stack It's gotta be Mack Gonna get me on the track Got a dragon on my back
Take me to the room where the beat's all round Gonna eat that sound (yeah yeah yeah!) Take me to the room where the black's all white And the white's all black take me back to the shack
She don't take no prisoners Gonna give me the business Got a dragon on my back It's a dragon attack
Get down, I said so Hey hey, All right
She's low down She don't take no prisoners Go down Gonna give me the business No time Yeah chained to the rack! Show time Got a dragon on my back Show down Go find another customer Slow down I gotta make my way

WAGT – GREAT EXPECTATIONS This is by no means a review of the tour; it is simply my anamnesis of the state I am in and of the state I think Adam is in at this point in time and how basically I feel we are in sync or whatever the word is for Adam living up to my sophisticated, if I do say so myself, expectations. I feel like he is in control; like he understands himself better; like this Trespassing journey, which was created to bring him a little closer, a lot closer to us, has actually brought him closer to himself. I watch the videos and after a while, I happen to notice a strange lack of any imperfections: things like awkward banter, or unpleasant moments, or off tones,or ‘scrunchy’ facial expressions… Those have happened before, in moments when Adam was unable to process a particular emotion in the best way, or when he felt uncertain in front of particular audience, or when I felt like he had not fully developed an idea… not to mention the triviality of malfunctioning technicalities. In short, moments when Adam was not at his best.
My impartial counter shows zero of those. He has grown so much, psychologically; whereas physically, he has managed not only to stop, but to turn back time – he looks so much better than during GNT; hell, he looks way better than he did 10 years ago! Benjamin Button has got nothing on him; Adam’s case is more than curious, it belongs in the realm of magic. Perfect sound of his voice over perfect image of his body over perfect work of his mind keep falling one over the other, layering incessantly in that delicious continuum which inevitably leads to a very deep feeling of complete satisfaction and profound contentment. Everything about him – his singing, his acting, his homages, his set list, his arrangements, his wardrobe, his movements, the level of his sex appeal, the staging, simply everything – shows a mature, a self-aware man; his nonchalant confidence shows a man in touch with his own essence. His ways are subtle and refined; he acts according to his emotional and intellectual status; according to his age. He has learned what works for him, how to be at his best in all ways possible and he knows it and he seems to be very happy about it. He no longer rules just the stage, or us - he rules himself; but not in a self-censoring or toning down way, far from it. He does it in a way which most realistically and honestly depicts the beauty of his being and the grandeur of his talent. The concept of the show is transparent, neat and unambiguous; his Cabaret definitely says: “Wilkommen!” with absolutely nothing in it indicating that money makes the world go round. It is not a sweet deception – in Adam’s world of truth, the only currency is the infinity symbol circulating from him to us and back again. If you want to trade, make sure to give back as good as you are getting. He drives a hard bargain, but the reward is life altering. The highlights of the show are so many that they are at your disposal to pick. Personally, I find Outlaws Of Love in this We Are Glamily Tour edition irresistibly, accurately and completely capturing everything I have previously said – it is an artistic, personal and musical triumph; it is a ‘Why I Love Adam Lambert’, aka ‘Why Adam Lambert Is A Genius’ expose; it is his CV, ID and most definitely his PB. My expectations from Adam are always great, but with all the certainty of my heart, I can freely say that this is not oh so Dickensian from me – the day when Adam fails me is never going to come.

Dragon Attack
Written by: Brian May
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, percussion, backing vocals
- A very rocking, funky song that was unlike what the band had done before.
- It was a signal of Brian trying to accomodate John and Freddie's more experimental side while grounding it in a rock format.
- Played live through 1985 and then brought back for Queen + Paul Rodgers in 2006 and again with Adam in 2012.
QUOTES:
- "It's my favourite song." - John Deacon - 1982
- "Done very late one night probably to the morning, probably very drunk." - Brian May - 1984
- "As a drummer, you need a sense of time, a sense of rhythm, a sort of inner clock and that you really need naturally. You have to have aggression and lastly I would say you definitely need stamina. But you do learn tricks, apart from the fact that you develop more stamina, your muscles get more used to what's demanded of them. We used to do a song called 'Dragon Attack' that was very hard on the right wrist." - Roger Taylor - 1993
- "It was put together in an unusual way. We just jammed for a while and put down the basic riff." - Brian May - 2000
ALTERNATIVE RELEASED VERSIONS:
1991 HOLLYWOOD REMIX
- ESSENTIAL listening. - Okay, I shouldn't like it. I should hate it...but I don't! The added rap works well in context and it maintains a very rock feel to it.
DAVE OGILVIE REMIX - Couldn't find a YT video. - It was an alright remix. Nothing spectacular.
OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
ROCK MONTREAL VERSION
ON FIRE AT THE BOWL VERSION
- Both versions are similar, with Freddie working it with the audience. High speed and funky. Freddie commanding the audience.
UNRELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
QUEEN + PAUL RODGERS - LIVE IN WORCESTER 2006
- Done much like the original version, but Paul is more straight forward with it. It was so great to hear this underrated track but it does miss a bit of playfulness. Still awesome though.
QUEEN + ADAM LAMBERT - LIVE IN LONDON 2012
-Done very differently than the original version. Some Queen fans complained that it was done too slowly and that perhaps Brian and Roger were getting older and so it was a bit tired. Myself, I kind of thought it was intentional and that it was done so to suit Adam. It was done much more slinkily that way and it did work very well.
PERSONAL NOTES: - One of my favs. A very underrated track that I was glad to see them resurrect with Adam. I wish Queen had attempted a bit more in this vein than committing themselves more fully to the dance rock they tried on the next album
