Maddie - First of all - thank you for all your posts! Whether they are about numbers or helping us understand cultures and practices in Asian countries, you have taught me a lot! Plus you're a lot of fun. So glad you are here! Secondly, I love this video and would like to download it on my Real Player, but they don't seem to be compatible. Is this video on You Tube, or will it be? evergreen, sorry for such a late response...haven't been able to spend a lot of time on Atop lately. Thank you so much for your kind words, that's so sweet of you! I haven't checked to see if this video is currently on youtube, but I'll ask my friend, the owner of this vid, about the compatibility and how to get it on the Real Player for you. Maddie - Thanks! I'll watch for it. I'm sure many others would like to be able to save it, too.

Will someone interpret the lyrics of "Shout." I have no idea why Adam is singing that song. "They gave you life and in return you gave them hell." Is it talking about his parents? What the hell is the song trying to say. I can't seem to get it. Alex, explain it to me if you can.

I can't get over how much I love Adam's Shout! Listen to how he sings it (disclaimer, I know zero about music and voice, or how to discribe them). Not only does he match the tone of his singing to the tone of the lyrics, unlike the original, but the inflections and stylistic choices are detailed and convey the message of the song. He gave it power and depth, and hugely improved the song!
One of the things that makes Adam sing in 3D is how the songs can get inside him. You can see it in how he moves, holds his body, and pours the song's meaning out vocally.
IMO Adam does best in big songs like this. Songs with power to match his own. Songs with a meaning he can embody . Occasionally you can tell he's not feeling it for whatever reason, and while the actor in him is pretty good, it is the songs that get inside him that have unbelievable magic (reference the first Is This Love vs the recent one). This is why he needs more than simple, fluffy songs. NCOE was sung beatifully but there wasn't anything to really feel in it--until maybe it became about the live concert. I didn't really enjoy AYGCMW because, while he plays a great rockin badass, that's as far as it went for me. But give him a Broken English, or WLL, or Stay, or even Cuckoo, which is basically a nonfluffy NCOE type, a song with enough meat to sink his soul into and magic insues.
It's been suggested Adam dumb down his next album to match what's out there. I couldn't disagree more.

What the hell is the song trying to say. I can't seem to get it. Alex, explain it to me if you can. I think I'm going to quote Adam for this: "It ain't that deep!" I don't think every song he sings has to be connected to his life in some manner. There was worry about him covering Stay, and there's worry again with Shout. Maybe it's as simple as him just liking those songs and feeling like singing them. Not everything has to be an encripted message, IMO. Plus, even if he were relating to the lyrics, it doesn't have to be in a literal sense. When I relate to a song, it's usually the overall feeling it gives me, or just part of the lyrics, or even just a single phrase. I don't have to be right, of course. If another Atopper has a different theory, please share!

It is no doubt an indication of popularity and so it is wonderful and bodes well for his future as an international star. However, with platinum being only 20,000, I imagine it does not represent a lot of units sold. It is a little frustrating that he is popular in the most populous country in the world, but this popularity doesn't mean much for sales. Still extremely fantastic to have so many fans in China, and it will bring many opportunities I am sure, and judging by the game endorsement, it has already. There are other ways that artists make money in China -- endorsements, concert and payments for streaming media. The micropayments for online advertising and licensing add up when multiplied by such big numbers. The requirement of 20,000 is for int'l albums, domestic is 40,000, just to be precise. As Q3 has pointed out many other ways for the record companies to make money in China, other than the meager CD sales, I also provided a couple of specific examples in my yesterday's reply to the similar post, I'm not gonna bore you guys here again. Anyways, in this day and age, straightforward music sales is only one of many revenue streams for the record company and the artist.

Sigh........I live in the geographical center of the United States and haven't seen Adam live since the Glamnation Tour. My son lives in Singapore and I was just texting him trying to get him to go to Adam's concert tomorrow night and he told me he can see the Star Theater from his apartment window and has heard about the concert. Hope he goes but REALLY wish I was there!!!!!!!!!!
I heard "Stay" on pop radio this morning on way to work. I love Rhianna but all I could think was how much better Adam sang it!
