Adam Lambert Coming to Jakarta a Proven Star

Just three months ago, American singer Adam Lambert rang in the new year in Bali as headliner for a concert at the Mulia hotel.

Now, fans who may have been disappointed that Lambert finally made it all the way to Indonesia but didn’t stop in Jakarta have reason to cheer up: On Sunday, the runner-up of American Idol’s eighth season is scheduled to take the stage at Gandaria City in South Jakarta.

While growing up, Lambert often took part in music and theater performances, soon realizing his future was in the entertainment industry.

After graduating from senior high school, he enrolled at California State University, but lasted only five weeks before deciding to move to Los Angeles instead.

“I just decided that what I really wanted to do was try to work in the real entertainment world,” he said in an interview about the move. “Life is all about taking risks to get what you want.”

Lambert made the right choice, even though he struggled at times and had to work jobs he didn’t truly believe in.

When he was 19, he joined a cruise ship as a performer for 10 months and later became a cast member in the musical “Hair,” which became a turning point in his career.

He landed several parts in other musicals, most prominently in “Wicked,” but his big break came when he auditioned for American Idol.

Throughout the show, Lambert was a favorite of both the crowds and the judges thanks to impressive vocals and fascinating theatrics on stage.

Even though he lost to Kris Allen in the final, American Idol judge Simon Cowell was convinced that the young pop-rock singer would have a lasting impact in the music industry.

“Over the entire season, you’ve been one of the best, most original contestants we’ve ever had on the show,” he told him. “The hope and whole idea of a show like this is to find a worldwide star, and I truly believe we’ve found that in you.”

Cowell’s words were proven true shortly after. Only a few months after American Idol ended, Lambert released his debut album “For Your Entertainment,” which he worked on with some of the industry’s best talent, such as Lady Gaga, Rivers Cuomo, Linda Perry and Pink.

The album became a worldwide success and received favorable reviews, with the Huffington Post calling it “an instant classic” and adding that “as a whole, ‘For Your Entertainment’ marks one of the most impressive mainstream pop album debuts in recent memory.”

His sophomore album “Trespassing” followed in May 2012 to equally positive reviews, spawning the hit singles “Better Than I Know Myself” and “Never Close Our Eyes.”

Compared to his peers, Lambert is without doubt a standout. Not only noted for his flamboyant, glam-rock style that has often put him on the covers of music and fashion magazines, the 31-year-old has also been praised for his wide vocal range.

When he performed at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards with the remaining members of larger-than-life rock band Queen, Lambert had to fill the big shoes of Freddie Mercury, and he didn’t disappoint. Instead, it was such a great fit that they decided to play more shows together at several festivals, and Lambert’s theatrical performances truly lived up to Mercury’s name.

Queen’s legendary guitarist Brian May later told the BBC that Lambert’s voice has “sensitivity, depth, maturity, and awesome range and power which will make jaws drop.”

Other colleagues from the music industry have joined in praise for Lambert, like Pharrell Williams, with whom Lambert worked on “Trespassing.”

“This kid has a voice like a siren — there’s no guys singing in that Steve Winwood-Peter Cetera range,” he said.

Citing Michael Jackson, Madonna, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie as his major influences, Lambert is an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community.

It is this open-mindedness and his urgent sense to stay true to himself that has earned him legions of loyal fans worldwide.

His concert in Jakarta will be Lambert’s second appearance in Indonesia.

Adam Lambert to headline Miami Beach Gay Pride festival

Vocal powerhouse Adam Lambert has been confirmed as the headliner of this year's Miami Beach Gay Pride event in Florida.

This year's festival will be the fifth annual Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade and Festival and a post on the event's official website explains that it will take place over the weekend of April 13-14.

The 'Trespassing' sensation will take the stage on Sunday night, April 14, and his performance is due to begin at approximately 8pm. Organisers of the festival have explained that his set will be held on the main stage in Lummus Park, which is "just off Ocean Drive, between 11th and 12th Street", and it will be free.

Miami Beach Gay Pride has also set up a page through which people can donate money in order to keep the festival as a free event and you can pledge funds here.

Lambert is a great spokesperson for the LGBT community and often speaks about being a gay idol while campaigning for equality. Late last year, the superstar performed at the second annual 'Home For The Holidays' concert in Manhattan, which was a charity event that raised money for homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youths.

We met @realadamlambert last night ;') ;') ;') We were sooo lucky got picked up to met him before the concert.Thought sharing the story here- I was waiting for a friend in front of the box office counter to collect my tix from a friend then one of Adam's crew (think his name is Neo) approached me.He asked me where I came from and with whom I came with.told him I 'm with my friend @ayajoyy. He then whispered to me to go n get my friend quickly and heads to see a guy in the glass room nearby quietly.I was literally shaking, at that moment I know something miracle will happen- Then we went to see that security guy, there were another 10 person waiting there as well- all are shaking and happy and in shocked LOL -theb they guy brought us up and started to tell us that they will bring us to meet certain~somebody ( hihihi) but before that they gonna film us for some video thing-said we hv to control ourselves, dont be too loud, that we must behave and follow his instructions stricltly because his life ( gesturing to his neck) is at stake for doing this suprise thingy.I reallu have no idea what is all about coz I was hyperventilates like an idiot not believibng how lucky I am.Then a grup of crew came w video n camera n they started the filming- the guy asked us in group to tell what why we,Asian fans love Adam soo much.We had soo much fun doing the tapping Then it's time to meet him- we were ushered to a room and there he was- standing so tall and glowy and skinny before us, waving at us and he said hiiii and smile to us Awwwaaw ;') ;') The crew told us not to take pic- but me being so determined, asked Adam whether we can take pic w him and he said, yeah, why not!! Talked to him about something that I meant to tell him for a long time and he hugged me for that.So priceless!!So yeah basically Adam being Adam, so real and friendly and pretty and glowy and shiny and smiley- and we were cray2 shaking and smiling not believing what just happened after we missed him for sooo many times- bali, airport, uss.This totally paid off and we gonna cherish this moment forever.WE LOVE YOU, ADAM!!!
