Just look 2 posts above. Q3 quoted me, as did others before that. It says: Hi all, just came back from the Adam Lambert concert "in my backyard", Jakarta. I think a bit more than 50% of the tickets was sold (capacity was 5000) and the audience was very diverse, agewise and genderwise.. yeah !
ETA: Just googled if Singapore was part of Malayasia and it said no. I thought they were separate countries also. wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_Singapore_part_of_MalaysiaRight, apart from the review of 1000 you brought another number of 2500 here that I didn't somehow register. Well, that's better for Jakarta And yes, Singapore is a republic of its own. I was thinking it would reach the Malaysian people around it and that should be taken into account when making comparisons - it's probably more complicated than that. Problem is that the Singapore dollar is quite strong, I think - so I think the Malaysians would generally find the tickets even pricier than you guys did. And there were definitely some tickets that were not, um, officially, "sold", but seats were filled. And I'm taking not about those VIP seats. (Still giggling at Adam calling them out.)

On pg1 it shows 3500 tickets sold out of 5K for Sinapore. Which raises another question.. what's considered by promoters, and people who count, to be really good, successful attendance? It depends on the costs and other sources of revenue. Singapore tickets were expensive -- Tickets are priced at $188, $158, $128, $98. That is US$151, 127, 103, 78. So ticket revenue was high. Most of the unsold seats were $78 seats. So even at 70% attendance, this would be considered successful based on revenue? Thanks Q3!

But most artists would be thrilled with 70% attendance. And sometimes sold out concerts loose money. Like recorded music -- it is not about volume or revenue, it is about profits.

Q3 I don't know a lot about the concert business so could you explain how a sold out concert can loose money please?

A sold out concert can loose money if the expenses are greater than the revenues --
- Too much spent on advertising to sell the tickets - Unexpected expenses - Artist gets gross plus (big stars) and the audience does not buy many drinks - Concert is a loss-leader for a casino or resort and planned to loose money ETC....
