this isn't his first time in Russia. Why is everyone freaking out? He just performed in Moscow without incident.....what has got everyone's knickers in a twist just because he traveled to another city in Russia? Who is freaking out.. I was in St. Petersburg 7 years ago before this overt government anti- gay policy took place..I just think a twitter campaign with OOL is not a great idea for ME.As far as Adam singing it .. Great. People are sharing their feelings.. have you visited Russia?.. Most of the everyday people are lovely.. the govt. not so much.. the rise of the new Cossacks .. Hate with govt. approval.Just saying.. Things have changed because of the hate campaign against gays in this particular city by a particular mean spirited politician. This. Russia was never a human rights paradise, but the situation at the moment is singularly unfriendly to GLBT artists: "Poll: Almost a quarter of Russians want 'compulsory treatment' for gays and 5% think gay people should be 'liquidated.'" www.pinknews.co.uk/2013/03/12/poll-almost-a-quarter-of-russians-want-compulsory-treatment-for-gays-and-5-think-gay-people-should-be-liquidated/Also note that the poll shows Russia is moving backwards: "The results released on Tuesday revealed that 85% of Russians opposed same-sex marriage, 80% felt same-sex couples should not be granted adoption rights and 87% said they did not want gay pride parades to take place in Russian cities, reports the Moscow Times.
According to the survey fewer people are tolerant of homosexuality compared to a similar survey conducted eight years ago."
This is pretty much the same thing that is happening in Uganda. Russia, like Uganda, is an unstable country with endemic corruption and poverty. In such nations, people create scapegoats. Gays are easily scapegoated. I don't know how Adam should act in response, but the fact is, there is something here for him to respond to.

google translate: Adam Lambert brought to Kiev new album (video)
Bright GLAM ROCK - show in Kiev. His new album is an American singer Adam Lambert.
31-year-old artist in the capital for the second time. In summer, the fan zone Euro 2012, he took part in a charity concert with the musicians of the legendary band Queen.
But now the singer himself came with his new album «Trespassing». Adam Lambert has a unique voice of 4 octaves, besides he is a talented poet and actor.
In the U.S., he was a finalist at the popular show "American Idol", which brought him fame. 200,000 copies of his first album in the States just flew for the first week. The last collection of songs Lambert still occupies the first position in the U.S. charts.
To listen to the live singer, Ukrainians paid between 400 to 2,000 hryvnia.Wow the prices for the ticket is quite high. It's about 5 hryvnas per dollar, so $80 to $400. Not many can afford those prices. When we adopted my son from western Ukraine 10 years ago, there was not a hotel in town, so we stayed with a Ukrainian family, a more wealthier family. He was an engineer and she a doctor. She made $40 or 200 hryvnas a month. What we paid them in lodging of $50 for 17 days, was more that what they both made in a year. So only the more affluent are able to attend his concert. I'm sure there are many more fans unable to attend. So the fact that he had a probably a 70% attendance is Kiev says a lot.

I know nothing about the politics in St. Petersburg and am absolutely typing from a place of ignorance about all things political. I just think it's very tragic that anyone, let along Adam, has to be subjected to discrimination. I mean, think about it.....really?! I do think it's important for him to perform there. It will empower others to stand up to adversity. I don't think he needs to "do" anything to get his point across -- just being there says enough. I hope he has a great show!
