Adam Lambert Miami Beach Gay Pride Press Conference 2013
Written by DC Cruz
Earlier today I had the pleasure in participating in the 2013 press conference for the Miami Beach Gay Pride Festival with Adam Lambert as the headliner!
Now, if you are not too familiar with Adam then let me break it down for you. Adam has multiple albums that have led to world tours, over 200 million hits on Vevo alone, and one of the strongest male vocals of our time. Did I mention the man can deliver some serious "soulful Rock -n- Roll music." He has ballads that will have you screaming at the top of your lungs as you beg and plead "What do you want from me"? (which happens to be one of his biggest hits).
Okay, so maybe I went a little overboard, but it’s not every day that you get to meet a person that is so down to earth as well as completely open with his feelings that come with being a gay man in the spotlight during this historic time for the LGBT community. I actually had a chance to ask Adam how he felt about being a Gay Icon during this historic time for our community. His response was one that both humbled and filled me with joy. It really inspired me to see that Adam was so knowledgeable about the struggles we go through on a daily basis. This movement for equal rights is something that we, the LGBT community, have been fighting for years and the fact that he is here supporting us demonstrate us how important this is to us. No matter how far you make it in life you should never forget where you came from and Adam is a prime example of that. His presence throughout this movement is something we shouldn’t take for granted.
Adam expressed to me that while touring the world, he has personally been able to see how repression towards the LGBT community around the world is still actively going on. Upon returning to the United States, he stated that he noticed how much more liberal we are as a community and that it really sets the tone to the reality that we are living in today. As he expressed his thoughts to me I could see myself, along with countless others, shine through his words. "You can really feel the electricity in the air and the change that's coming." Adam later elaborated that he doesn’t fully understand why there is so much discrimination towards the LGBT in a country that is so accepting in people’s rights such as ours.
I must really state that throughout the entire press conference Lambert was nothing like you would have expected in person. He was extremely down to earth, making jokes, and even letting us know that he had a long night of partying in South Beach in clubs such as Mova, Score and Twist; which was why he was feeling so "attached" to his Golden Shades. He also let us know that he will soon be returning to the studio to work on his next EP, so expect new music from Lambert soon!
Aside from stating the obvious that you should ALL go check out Lambert tomorrow in Miami Beach for Gay Pride; I heard something about Adam receiving the key to Miami Beach! Is it true or is it false..? There is only one way to find out and that is to come show your support for the LGBT community at this year’s Gay Pride in South Beach.
