Does anyone know if Simon Cowell filled the judging spots after LA Reid & Britney left? With Simon's connection to Adam, wouldn't that be a possibility? and the judges like the X Factor actually mentor the contestants... Yes,Simon announced that it would be Kelly Rowland and another lady I didn't recognize.

I think in the past year I've made only one comment on the whole Adam + Idol judge issue, and that was: "I have mixed feelings." One thing that has always confused me a little is how much constructive influence the judges actually have on the contestants' progress. I mean, the judges are not mentors... they're not spending time with the contestants during the week, helping them choose songs, working on arrangements and stage presence, doing vocal classes with them, teaching them choreography. Right? Am I wrong about this? Is there behind-the-scenes stuff going on that we never see? After Adam's season, I pretty much stopped watching Idol, so I'm not really "current" about what goes on every week, but from my murky memories, it seems that all the judges do, week after week, is spend a few seconds giving their opinion about a performance. Like, Adam's comments on the beautiful Chinese girl were kind of typical in terms of what we hear from judges, right? Not more than about 10-15 seconds ---> "It was so angelic... You're so grounded... and your energy and focus... it was beautiful... I loved it!" Or, if you're Randy, it's like "Gurrrrl... you're in it to win it!!" I guess I'm just wondering how much the judges actually help the contestants when they're confined to making a few brief comments just once a week. Has Adam ever been asked the question: "How much did the judges help/guide you during your stint on Idol? How much influence did they have on you, week to week?" I dunno... Adam was already a seasoned consummate professional when he first showed up on the Idol stage, so he doesn't really count! LOL But for some of the other kids who've been "plucked" out of a coffee shop or off the farm, I really wonder if and how the judges brief comments actually help them, as opposed to the mentors/technical people/vocal coaches/choreographers, etc, behind the scenes. I dunno... does any of this make sense? I was just thinking of the difference between the The Voice and Idol... On The Voice, we see the judges working with the contestants as mentors. I kind of wish Idol was like this, too. Crap, I have to admit, I usually skip over posts that are more than a few lines long because sauced burritos (as in wine sauce, not salsa sauce) have a short attention span but, damn, Seoulmate, I so value your opinion I read every word and have a comment -- for what it's worth from a sauced burrito. In my vaulted opinion (where does that come from?? -- vaulted opinion -- what burrito has a a vaulted -- in other words, highly respected -- opinion???) But I digress, here's my opinion -- if the contestant values/respects/appreciates/has high regard for the judge offering the critique, he/she/they (the judge I mean) can have a significant influence. I think judges hold a lot of sway over new/fledgling/up-and-coming talent which leads to my belief that a good judge can do so much good and a bad judge so much bad. Adam wasn't a new/fledgling/up-and-coming talent so he knew what to toss and what to take in. Others aren't so seasoned. And I've now posted a post that I would probably scroll though. Edited to add: MOO (my own opinion) or should I say BOO (burrito's own opinion) Heh heh. I crack myself up sometimes. ETA2: I really should add 391 and 390 since I've edited this post two times! But no, Q3, won't give me that. And why is that? Why can't edits count as a post?! I swear I'd be a lot closer to my next star if edits counted. Grrrr...no rest for the wicked.

She used to be in Destiny's Child with Beyonce. She has sold over 24 million "records" worldwide as a solo artist according to wiki. I'm not sure how since the # for each individual album only adds up to about 4 million - maybe "records" includes albums plus singles. The other new judge is Paulina Rubio who is a Latin singer. I've never heard of her before either, but according to wiki, she had the #1 Latin album in the US in 2001 and has sold over 20 million "albums" worldwide in the last 20 years, including more than 10 million in the U.S.

Thanks to Q3 for the A3 Clues & Hints thread and to aleks for getting it started! Somehow I think today -- the day after the double Idol week -- feels like the start of the A3 era. I know some things happened already but there is just something in the way Adam was looking at the Chinese singer's audition -- like I could see the gears turning. Me too! The gears were saying, "Can't wait til I start my judging on American Idol next season!"

Most of the career total numbers are calculated that way.

Admit it... you so value my opinion because I NEVER HAVE ANY OPINIONS!!!! Maybe once a year I post something longer than one line. LOL I dunno... you could be right about the judge's influence. I just know that on the very rare occasions that I've tuned into A.I. since Adam's season, I listen to some poor schmuck singin' their heart out on stage and I'm like: And the judges are all like: And this past season, Randy repeats exactly the same stuff he's been saying ad nauseum for 12 years, and Mariah and Nicki spend their whole time bitching and stroking their fucking hair, a nd I'm like:And I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND how anyone could take them seriously. That is all. Maybe if there were only THREE judges, and they were given more time to comment and (like I said earlier), if Adam could get up on stage and DEMONSTRATE what the kids should be doing... then I think that'd be cool.
