Sorry but I have to disagree . I don't think a smart label would pass the chance on someone so popular world wide . Well that would be most excellent i do wish these label execs would have the balls to have their names published with their comments. It would give it more context. And with that i am outta here. Dont lose too much sleep over this or you will never make it to #3 At this point ? I'm highly doubting A3 right now . Somebody please help me .

Please don't shoot me, but I don't see what is so terrible about Adam doing an album of covers. I see fans all the time talking about how they wish he would do this song and that song cover during his concerts. On this forum we've had lists of songs we want to hear him sing. Adam did an amazing job of covers while on Idol, and before that in the Upright Cabaret. He is a marvelous song arranger and interpreter. And let's not forget how he "covered" a bunch of Queen songs a year ago. Pretty damned perfect, IMO. Also, every time Adam covered a "new" old song on tour, he got lots of positive press (i.e. Stay, Shout, and AYGGMW). Many people really enjoy hearing the old songs they adored when they were younger given new life with a new arrangement, a new singer, a new interpretation. And for the younger generation, these songs are "new". On my "wish list" yesterday I talked about wanting Adam to do a TV special where he covered great songs from a number of different genres to show off his great voice and versatility. We have all commented about hearing the originals of songs Adam has covered and thinking that Adam did it so much better that no one else should ever sing that song again but Adam. Given that top 40 radio seemed vastly uninterested in Adam's new music on TP for whatever reason, perhaps, just perhaps, a cover album might be a way to bring Adam recognition with a whole new group of fans. Heck, radio hasn't worked. Maybe approaching things from a different angle will be the ticket. It's all just rumor at this point. Probably just B.S. Still, Adam has a way of giving us what we didn't know we wanted. And he IS THE BEST song interpreter I have ever heard. So, shoot me, but I would love to hear Adam put his own stamp on some classic songs from whatever genre. Maybe other fans will discover they like it, too. Hey, it could happen. I KNOW !! But Adam own music comes first !!!

80s covers will attract middle age audience. period. The young are not interested in my observation. They need electronic music.
The media is going to pick this up and I hope it will force Adam to say something.... IF he remains silent I will consider it a confirmation.

I work with a band. They have awesome original songs. A few years ago, they started doing some covers. I hated the idea at the time. However, what I've seen is that people really get into the cover because they know them and that helps them appreciate the band MORE. They have something to compare the performance with. When Adam sings SSB and WLL it's obvious how awesome he is, how much more he can bring to those songs than other singers.
I don't know if a whole album of covers is a "good" idea or not, but I suspect radio would play it and that has been touted as a "good" thing.
Nothing is going to ruin Adam's overall career. He is too talented. He has charted his own course and will continue to do so. The music industry is changing too fast for anyone to do it the way "it was always done."

ARGH SO NOW IT WILL SPREAD AROUND LIKE CANCER . He'll have to address it now, dont ya think? A cover album BEFORE your own music is established is a death sentence to me. Goddammit....again. agree on all points

The worst part is that the media will pick this up and translate it as "Adam has no longer a life as a singer"

I think Shirley got what she wanted from this "article". Lots of hits, twitter comments a fire. this seems to come from what seems to be her own conjecture and what she knew would make the shit hit the fan. If memory serves she had an Idol contact that I think is no longer there so.... where does she go from there. I read the article, and I agree with you. There is a lot of speculation by Shirley in it, and very little in the way of facts. For example, she cites Adam's performance of "Shout" as a possible sign that the 80's cover album is underway. But he also sang AYGGMY, which is from the 1990's and "Is this Love", from 1978. Shirley also contradicts herself: in one paragraph, she says that RCA has no comment about Adam's next album, and then in another she claims a "label source" says that RCA can get behind a covers collection. So, did RCA comment or not? I think this article is 90% speculation on her part, so I'm not going to worry about this yet. I'm more annoyed about the overall negative tone to this article than anything else. Also, although I would prefer Adam to record his own songs, an album of cover songs would not necessarily consign Adam to Clay Aiken status. Artists who have recorded albums composed of cover songs include David Bowie ("Pin Ups"), Annie Lennox ("Medusa") and Rage Against the Machine ("Renegades"). Heck, maybe the album of cover songs would be an album with Queen -- not necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully, Adam or Shoshanna will tweet something soon. I'm not banking on it, but I hope in this case Adam is willing to share at least a little bit of info to clarify Shirley's imaginative speculation.

Covers are always popular, I'd prefer to see Adam contribute to a "tribute" album of some kind more than a whole album. I know lots of people think covers are a death sentence but if you look at Groban, Buble et al they made their bones with covers which gave them the reputation and respect so their original music was heard - is not a formula that I've seen used in pop music , previously more about American standards, but would be interesting to see if it could work for more contemporary music... if anyone could pull it off suspect Adam could.
