Also, a good Christmas/Holiday song pays and pays and pays for YEARS. The musicians I know would LOVE to have a Holiday song that hits. My band writes one every year for just that reason.

I work with a band. They have awesome original songs. A few years ago, they started doing some covers. I hated the idea at the time. However, what I've seen is that people really get into the cover because they know them and that helps them appreciate the band MORE. They have something to compare the performance with. When Adam sings SSB and WLL it's obvious how awesome he is, how much more he can bring to those songs than other singers. I don't know if a whole album of covers is a "good" idea or not, but I suspect radio would play it and that has been touted as a "good" thing. Nothing is going to ruin Adam's overall career. He is too talented. He has charted his own course and will continue to do so. The music industry is changing too fast for anyone to do it the way "it was always done." as many of us I try to promote BB at every opportunity...and BECAUSE people know his name from AI almost EVERY time get asked something like "but goes he write his own music"... so, that's that.... Just to add another perspective....I've never been asked that once.

ARGH SO NOW IT WILL SPREAD AROUND LIKE CANCER . He'll have to address it now, dont ya think? A cover album BEFORE your own music is established is a death sentence to me. Goddammit....again. I hope he addresses it soon. I agree, I can't see anything positive about a cover album. Ugh, I was at a hotel without wi-fi for the last five days and this is what I come home to.

That's the main problem for me... I just can't see radio playing 80s covers. Can someone help me out here? Do we have a precedent? In the past year or two have there been any big cover hits on radio? I'd really like to know this. When my local station stopped playing Adam music I stopped listening, so I'm totally ignorant right now.

I couldn't answer, I don't enjoy what I hear on the radio so I rarely even turn it on. Adam is edgy, makes some people uncomfortable, doesn't fit into any box.... maybe a familiar song performed as only Adam can perform it, would help more people "get" him. Rock, Pop, Broadway, commercials, TV, film, whatever - it's all entertainment. Adam is an entertainer and has a unique talent. Maybe pop star isn't the way he will find his ultimate fame. I believe in his ability and I believe it will find a larger audience. I also feel it will take a twisty road to get there.

I am really disgusted with this news. Utterly disgusted, in fact. I think a cd of covers will kill Adam's recording career as a current, relevant pop artist -- which is what he's said repeatedly, for years, that is his goal. It will kill any opportunity of ever getting radio play or expanding his fanbase deeply into the younger age groups. (I mean, seriously, people younger than 40 are NOT going to a concert with a bunch of 80s covers, nor are they going to buy a cd of them.)
IMO the idea of an entire cd of covers is farcical. Frankly I find it unbelievable except that given how RCA mucked up TP, I can believe it and I believe this rumor -- if true -- is proof that RCA doesn't believe in or care about Adam's career. It returns focus to what radio supposedly hates about Adam -- that he came from AI and the covers they do. Worst of all, it turns Adam into a a Susan Boyle wannabe. Susan Boyle sold millions upon millions of cds and got zero radio play. Adam will be no different and radio will sneer at him even worse for trying because it makes him look like a washed-up, desperate hack, especially because there is no way RCA is going to support this to radio. No way. And if he then tries to get out of that box later on, good luck.
I can only hope this is a bad rumor and it goes away. Or else Adam announces that he's changed his goals and let fans decide if they want to follow him or not. (I"m not going to be drawn into a discussion of what constitutes a "true fan" either.)
