Rock, Pop, Broadway, commercials, TV, film, whatever - it's all entertainment. Adam is an entertainer and has a unique talent. Maybe pop star isn't the way he will find his ultimate fame. I believe in his ability and I believe it will find a larger audience. I also feel it will take a twisty road to get there. I agree. I trust in his future. |

I'm not worried about Adams ability to be successful in whatever avenue he chooses to follow. But I'm absolutely gutted that his label would feel that way, and throw him under a bus like this. Like someone up thread said, I thought they simply made short-sighted decisions, but this is malicious.

Please don't shoot me, but I don't see what is so terrible about Adam doing an album of covers. I see fans all the time talking about how they wish he would do this song and that song cover during his concerts. On this forum we've had lists of songs we want to hear him sing. Adam did an amazing job of covers while on Idol, and before that in the Upright Cabaret. He is a marvelous song arranger and interpreter. And let's not forget how he "covered" a bunch of Queen songs a year ago. Pretty damned perfect, IMO. Also, every time Adam covered a "new" old song on tour, he got lots of positive press (i.e. Stay, Shout, and AYGGMW). Many people really enjoy hearing the old songs they adored when they were younger given new life with a new arrangement, a new singer, a new interpretation. And for the younger generation, these songs are "new". On my "wish list" yesterday I talked about wanting Adam to do a TV special where he covered great songs from a number of different genres to show off his great voice and versatility. We have all commented about hearing the originals of songs Adam has covered and thinking that Adam did it so much better that no one else should ever sing that song again but Adam. Given that top 40 radio seemed vastly uninterested in Adam's new music on TP for whatever reason, perhaps, just perhaps, a cover album might be a way to bring Adam recognition with a whole new group of fans. Heck, radio hasn't worked. Maybe approaching things from a different angle will be the ticket. It's all just rumor at this point. Probably just B.S. Still, Adam has a way of giving us what we didn't know we wanted. And he IS THE BEST song interpreter I have ever heard. So, shoot me, but I would love to hear Adam put his own stamp on some classic songs from whatever genre. Maybe other fans will discover they like it, too. Hey, it could happen. , everything you say is totally true. I mean, Adam shot to fame doing covers. And we were all DEAD AND DYING with Queenbert. I can't deny that one of the highlights of GNT for me was waiting for the encore to see if he'd do WLL and HOW he'd do it. There's probably not a song out there that Adam couldn't take and make it his own and leave us all gasping. I was just so hoping that A3 would give him the radio-friendly songs that he/we've been longing for, and I just don't know if radio will play an 80s cover. Will they? Will anyone other than his fan base run out and buy an album of covers? Maybe. I just don't know. All of this is giving me a major headache.  |

Covers are always popular, I'd prefer to see Adam contribute to a "tribute" album of some kind more than a whole album. I know lots of people think covers are a death sentence but if you look at Groban, Buble et al they made their bones with covers which gave them the reputation and respect so their original music was heard - is not a formula that I've seen used in pop music , previously more about American standards, but would be interesting to see if it could work for more contemporary music... if anyone could pull it off suspect Adam could. Groban and Buble are popular with the same audience that bought SuBo. I can't imagine anyone younger than 45 listening to them. Forget about under 35. Going the 80's or 90's or ANYTHING which is not 2014 is a recording artist suicide IMO. I agree there are many other venues for artistic expression and Adam can do them all. But the "recording artist" he will not be after that. YMMV. |

So far from caught up! Got home and saw all the drama on twitter! I'm trying to not completely freak out until we know how much of this is true. But I have to agree with nica. If it's true there is no way to spin this positive for him imo. At least as a pop recording artist which is what he wants. It would be a humiliation for RCA to do this to him.
IF IT'S TRUE!!!! But why would Shirely make it up? Makes no sense.
I feel really really sick about it.
