This is the worst part for me too. Like a kick in the stomach. Many of us already knew that he was not being supported in era#2 but seeing a "label source" admit it is jarring. And I know we have no idea if this "label source" exists. Still jarring. And even with a freaking covers album they make all the creative decisions - song choices & album art? Where did THAT come from if not from the mysterious "source"? That's both a kick in the stomach and a slap in the face. The one good thing is that I haven't seen any other media sources pick this up. Well Shirley sure got a reaction didn't she?

Maybe I'm just being cynical, but I wonder if this is how the Shirley article came about: Hollywood Reporter Editor: Slow news day. We need to get some hits on the site. Shirley, didn't you go to that Lambert event this weekend? Got anything? Shirley: Yeah, I went, but I didn't find out anything new. Lambert answered "no comment" to everything. Editor: Really? C'mon now, you have to have something. There must be at least a few tidbits you can string together for a story. You know what to do. **winks** Shirley: Okay, I think I can put something together that the Glamberts will jump on. **winks back** I still think that article is 10% fact and 90% Shirley speculation. Hope I'm right. I don't even think Shirley interviewed him though? Where's her interview? That one "Funny thing about rumors?" Seems like she is quoting 3rd hand info. Yes, I don't think she interviewed him. In my cynical scenario, I assumed that she looked at the interviews Adam did with other people and, as we saw, discovered that he gave a lot of "no comment". So, yes, she was relying on info gained possibly third or even fourth-hand (that is, rumors). That's why I think this article is largely speculation -- it seems like an exercise in desperation to get hits. Just my cynical opinion.

As far as I know, the word fuck IS acceptable here. I couldn't be a Adam fan, if I truly found the word unacceptable. Adam says fuck, sings fuck, and even signs fuck. How about calling someone names? What are you talking about? If you have a complaint, you need to PM a mod.

linkBoy the effort I went to to read the personal branding article! It was worth it. Thanks for sharing it! We need to get beyond categories, demographics, characterized groups! It seems so yesterday and I mean ages ago! I recognize that there are the so called masses that may fit into some kind of box (but is that even really true?), but what about the outliers? There are a heck of a lot of us! I read it too. One of the comments said "Plus he has been saddled by the media with being a gay icon – not something he ever wanted to be – and has most graciously taken up the challenge. Unfortunately, that cause has also created a bit of a barrier for him – American radio pretty much ignores him, and there has been word that one or more of the major radio corporations has quietly banned his music." Like thebean from yesterday's thread, I've always felt he is somehow being blacklisted in radio (regarding Era 2, and a little in Era 1). Has anyone actually heard that he has been quietly banned by one or more major radio corporations as the above comment states? purisimage.com/2013/07/personal-branding-case-study-adam-lambert/#comment-12325 This article is very interesting. This part was also timely with the 80's discussion going on: "So how is it possible that Adam Lambert has this varied of a personal brand appeal? Leaves the rest of us envious and wanting to do the same with our personal and business brands, I would say. Well, I would venture it has something to do with the playlist. Not only did he sing all his popular songs, but he sang (and brought in very real, touching commentary about) songs from Tears for Fears, Hendrix, Bob Marley, and Queen. With this varied and exciting playlist, it is easy to see how he captured such a varied audience." ... In regard to a secret blacklist, I do think it can happen, sadly. Nobody is going to admit it, but we know in our society right now the vitriol toward gays, and we don't know truly who has control of the radio stings... but I won't take this comment any further so don't get into politics. But anyway, Adam is gay, and he is bully pulpit is growing. As that gets stronger, there will opposition that want to counter that strength. I am more "zin" today about the thought of a concept album so long as it doesn't take away from him releasing his own new music. About the only thing I feel sure about: Adam is the cream and will always float to the top, no matter who/what tries to push him under - he will however have a harder road to travel than many others to get there.

I love this bit! The author appears to be a casual fan -- but I had the exact same reaction to this concert and many others. Me too. Adam is always such a joyful performer. And he connects and makes you feel that joy. And then you just love him.

Adam got really good radio play for WWFM, so if there really is a "secret blacklist" it must have come about after the FYE era. I think the lack of radio play for Trespassing was simply a matter of RCA not supporting the project. Perhaps they told him that he could have sole control of the album, but they could not support it in that case. RCA didn't like KellyC doing "My December"; she got very little label support for it and it was her least successful work. She towed the party line for her next album and she was all over the place with support coming out the wahoo. Maybe it was too soon in his career for Adam to assume control of his album. Only he and RCA know and they are not talking.

In Germany there is no discussion about gay or not gay and he didn't get played on german radio because the single choices from RCA didn't connect. I think it is simple as that.

Adam seems to be a "cover everything up kinda guy" except for the occasional unbuttoned shirt or tank. He did wear a kilt while visiting Scotland with some type of plaid leggings but I don't see men's pantyhose as something he would wear as a regular fashion.
