While I agree that Adam is knowledgable about what's new and cutting edge in the music biz, I see people giving him kudos for his choices to work with Pharell and Nile, but I don't think either of those collabs were his idea. Didn't he say his label suggested Pharell in many interviews? I remember him saying he wasn't sure if he was "cool enough" but it worked out really well. Seems someone at his label had some insight, right? Also, I recall that contacting Nile was Sam Sparro's idea, maybe I'm remembering this wrong, anyone else remember? Even if these weren't his ideas, I think both connections have been very good for Adam in many ways. Maybe I just want to believe that someone at his label believes in him, as much as I do, as we fans do. Regarding Pharell and Nile; Adam told RCA A&R that he wanted to make a Funk album and the duty of the A&R is to facilitate that for Adam that's why RCA A&R that works with Adam connected him to Pharell and Nile, coz these two are famous for their funk sounds. So the idea was/is still coming from Adam. Okay, I don't know anything about Pharell, but judging from interviews, I feel like Adam has always liked him and he may have been one of the names Adam submitted to his label or management on his list of people he would like to work with. When Pharrell said yes, I bet Adam was excited. Pharell is awesome, and he is back, but it was with the help of Daft Punk expectations and a great pop song, Get Lucky. That song hit big, and then he followed it up with another hit, Blurred Lines, when people were already paying attention because of Get Lucky. Bang. Pharell is not only a legend but currently on top again. I do have some personal knowledge about what happened with Sam. Adam and Sam were working on Shady together and were really frustrated with it because they knew the sound they wanted but couldn't get it. They wanted a funk sound like Nile Rogers and worked on it together for a while, but it wasn't happening. Then Sam said that they should just try to get Nile himself, who is a sessions musician as well as a writer/producer, tweeted him and the rest is history. I also know that Sam loved working with Adam and with Nile. I was just hanging out with my son today, who is a musician/writer/producer here in L.A. I was affirming to him how cool Adam is and he said, "You don't have to tell me. A lot of my friends really dig him." And some of those friends are getting pretty big, so I loved hearing that. Also interesting to me- we were talking about writing music because my son got to write music in Bavaria with one of his heroes, Harold Faltermeyer. who is this musical genius that has something like 20 platinum albums and is famous amongst producers, and my son is also starting some writing sessions with various people, and so he was reflecting a bit on the writing process. For him, when he is collaborating with others, he usually doesn't sit down and just write a song. He works with collaborators until they get a certain idea or chorus or foundation set, and then he goes home and plays around with it for a while, and they send it back and forth until it becomes a finished track. I was struck by what a process co-writing a track iis, and my son said it is often a little awkward at first until the people settle in and get their dynamic established. Of course, it happens more easily with some people than with others. For example, he said working with Sam was immediately easy because Sam is such a charming, likeable and really good guy. That made me think of Adam, and how people like working with him so much for the same reason. All of that bodes well for people wanting to work with him again. Also, when people become friends, and they are both musicians, at parties or get togethers, they mix and sometimes make plans to just sit down and write informally/ casually to see what develops. I think Adam might be doing some of this now with people he has already worked with, with friends, and with people who might like to work with him. None of those sessions mean that any track will be ultimately used on a project - they are just explorations that both people enjoy and are interested in playing out. Anyway, I thought of Adam beginning to collaborate now with writers/producers to just start developing ideas about direction. Likely, he is still probably gathering and creating and building right now and isn't ready to start into narrowing down a specific direction for the album as of yet. That will likely take shape as his material grows and he begins to see a through thread that he feels excited about. If that is the case, I'm not surprised he isn't "revealing" ideas about his music yet. Adam is talented, and his talent is recognized by people who make music. I'm not sure what direction his music will take, but I know he will completely pour himself into creating and making it the best it can be. this is Adam. He will pour his heart into it, and that will come through, and make me love his music again. And again. And again.

holly... I really want to hear the outcome of this research paper!!! There's something that has perplexed me for quite awhile now -- when are the marketing people in the recording industry going to realize that the reason why the crowd is so diverse is because the "ancient ones" grew up rocking out to Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, the Beatles, etc. Then, the "ancient ones" lived thru disco, punk, grunge, etc. Somehow, it seems, once you get older you are supposed to dismiss your roots and start listening to Lawrence Welk. It doesn't work that way. No, you're right. It doesn't work that way!!!
