I don't see album#2 as a huge success - perhaps critically, but certainly not commercially or for radio play. Hopefully #3 will have at least a couple songs as successful as WWFM. Another Grammy nom would be glorious and thoses noms just don't come for songs that are not heard by the public or commercially successful - especially in the Pop category. ......... Trespassing did OK -- it was the #188 album in the US for 2012. And above it were 17 compilations, 8 Christmas albums and 6 soundtracks that are compilations. Many of the album above it were release in 2011 or ever before that. Just a rough count it was the #135 studio album release of the year EXCLUDING the 8 Christmas albums. > That is not counting whatever was sold outside the US. We do not have any numbers, but many of the albums above it were not distributed outside on North America. It might be in the top 100 studio albums released in 2012. Just because it looks great to me: A Grammy nomination will be really difficult if Adam puts out another pop album. Hopefully, they classify the next album within a genre (rock would be nice) -- or at least classify a track or two in a genre.

Moment of raw honesty because we all know these things are of vital worldwide importance:
1. From a graphic design standpoint Adam's mustache and goatee + jaw scruff cut up and shrink the length of his face. They work much better on someone with a longer face shape. I love the shape of Adam's face and I do think Adam is extremely handsome no matter what. However, I personally feel he looks more handsome without a mustache, soul patch, jaw fur combo. Some people look really dashing with the mustache and jaw thing but Adam in this particular present combination looks IMHO more smarmy than dashing. Maybe a thinner mustache and a smaller soul patch without the jawline fur would work better or one or the other. Or maybe just the under jaw/chin shading fur without the mustache.

I agree with you, Q3 that RCA has a marketing problem. My niece and a girlfriend went to the Universal concert last month. They are both marketing majors and her friend is taking an advanced marketing class this summer. It was niece's fifth Adam concert and friend's first. While waiting for the show to start, they called me. My niece commented, "Well, it's a usual Adam crowd -- totallly diverse and undefinable." Her friend then said, "I've never been to a concert like this, with a guy with a rainbow mohawk on my left and a grandma in an ECV on my right. And everything inbetween. How the heck do you market to a fanbase like that? There is no easy way "in" to a diverse population like this because finding out what they have in common besides Adam -- how do you do that? Maybe total promo saturation of the market to reach them?" She said she was going to ask her prof. The prof told her it was a really provocative dilemma for marketers and she is now working on that topic as her research paper for that class. holly... I really want to hear the outcome of this research paper!!! Oh I would love one of my students to write a paper on Adam!! Would be more interesting than what I usually get. It is not insurmountable nor the hardest marketing challenge I have ever seen, but insightful marketing is not something likely to come from anywhere in Sony. They are opportunistic -- across the corporation. So is UMG. It is the way the business is run. ** One thing Adam has for A3 he did not have for FYE or Trespassing is real credibility within the LGBT community and that buying power matters. I agree with Greg from Hollywood that this is a real commitment from Adam and not just lip service. And that interview was a joy to listen to. ETA on marketing Adam they are not completely off track -- There are identifiable sub-segments in Adam's audience in the US and they are targetable. LGBT, affluent college educated women, etc. RCA knows TV performance exposure is essential for Adam. I would do a better job targeting people who love fashion and style. Gaga did this. If I was queen of marketing for Adam, I would come up with some big live event performance opportunities for him. [Queenbert?] I would book a ton of TV performances. I would have him do a mega concert release party/concert/fashion event in a media center [NY] for a big charity with free admission, just a donation, and livestream it globally. But before anyone can do that -- he needs to create a new album.

I will ask my niece's friend if she'll share the paper. I make no guarantees, as she's pretty shy.
Upthread someone said: (sorry, I can't get the quote feature to work for me) I can see how having such a diverse fan base would fly in the face of how modern marketing is approached, but it has got to be a real asset also. A huge portion of the population are potential fans.
--- I do know that her prof said a lot of marketers would shy away from the challenge as the focus of modern marketing is segmenting populations. He said it's certainly not impossible, but a marketing team would have to think outside the box. (And speaking for myself, I think the problem Adam's had so far is that his marketing team is trying to stuff him inside their safe, well-worn boxes. Hence BTIKM, instead of Pop That Lock.)

(think gif of Alice going dowwwwwwn.....), she may not return before the end of the semester!
