What is rock? Pretty hard to define for me since it is not my forte. But take a look at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (link below) and you may be surprised and the vast array of inductees through the years: Donna Summer, George Harrison, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donavan, etc. I think many younger people have a different concept of what it is than boomers. Seems to me that rock is an umbrella term that started being used for much popular music in the 50s and 60s and so on. It now has many sub-genres: metal, pop, R&B, hip hop, etc. My students at school think of rock as a separate genre that is more specific than the Rock Hall of Fame. This discussion always comes up in class when we do our rock unit and has sometimes sparked heated debate. The Hall of Fame usage reminds me another term umbrella term: "classical" music. This term actually refers to a chunk of music that includes the historical sub-classifications of Medieval, Renaissance, Classical, Romantic, etc. Note that there is a "classical" sub-classification that refers to music of a certain time period (notably, Haydn, Mozart). rockhall.com/inductees/

Actually, I am hoping for rock-funk, rock-electro, rock-soul and maybe even a hard-rock song, long before I would long for pop-rock.
a) Pop rock is imo so grazed over one too many times, even though of course it will continue to be a mainstay on radio b) The new rhythmic sounds of the present CHR music are very intriguing for Adam, and he basically lead into this sound with Trespassing, even though the market/RCA did not quite recognize that. It would be good to build on that. c) He is working with people who develop songs more organically than the ones he used to work with in the typical RCA shops of Dr. Luke, etc. Hence, I think we will get something different this time around. And I would love that. But I certainly think that driving the overall album sound in a more organic rock direction will help Adam market-wise. And it will do so, with or without radio, imo.

But this poster has been dead-on in the past week. I am just wondering what other info he/she might have spilled. What are the predictions that he/she has made? The IHR Queen performance came from a Twitter poster after the Billboard tweet, not MJs. And the source does not post on MJs. This poster hasn't predicted anything that the mashed potatoes didn't predict. The only thing different is she/he presents it as facts & not an opinion.

There are so many kinds of rock -- I'm going to be happy as I loved Sleepwalker. I also LOVE the way he's doing FYE now. I bet he won't go entirely away from pop but pop infused with rock beats. Elvis was Rock, there's country rock, there's southern rock, etc. I know he's never been "bubblegum" and perhaps that's what he means. Didn't someone mention that Adam's POP was too smart? So, it will be rock infused with Adam and we'll all be blown away.

Not sure if you're considering all the stuff that was not Adam "filler" (and that would be debatable...I know what site I'm on but most Queen fans for example actually considered those moments some of the highlights). I don't think they'll axe all the Adam-less moments...but yeah the acoustic set will go and the drum solo won't happen. I consider the bass solo, drums battle and guitar solos "filler" because I don't think the audience of a pop concert knows what good stuff is I was trying to put myself into the shoes of someone organizing a Radio concert for an ADD-impaired generation... I love 39 and Love Of My Life, but I don't see them happening at that venue... The 3rd part of the London shows might be very close to what I would expect to see there. Did not mean to offend! Peace! This is a radio festival, not a Queen concert. Talon, I think they will play the most famous Queen songs that everyone will know and those moments you speak of, will be axed :(

Re EMA, I am actually skeptical that he would host. Why? Not that I would not like 16 costume changes in 2 hours (a la Selena), don't get me wrong. But he is not a big star in Europe at all, so this would come out of left field. He also is not celebrating an album that was big, so what crowd would he draw as a host? Now performing a song and announcing someone, I could of course see, but that is different than hosting. I think mys*&@^#r mentioned upthread that's how Katy Perry started before she becomes a big star, she's a host for EMA or some award show. Katy's in the same management as Adam, DMG. So for me, whatever DMG will do or try to do to catapult Adam's career.. it's good for me hey, I'll take it, nothing against it at all, just saying that it would surprise me. Then I read here since that Heidi Klum hosted and that ended every argument, I guess. What on earth does she have in common with music, except an ex-husband, whom she rather nastily betrayed. I for one, care about Seal significantly more than about her. She is ice-cold and relies on her looks. But to get to the point, if she can host, then obviously Adam can host ten times over. DMG did pretty well with IHR. With KP and QAL they have their two biggest stars in the top row of the Friday line-up. For a small management company that is pretty darn impressive.

You know, there is GOOD pop music and there is BAD rock music. Just because someone is a pop fan doesn't mean they don't know what "good music" sounds like. It just may sound different to a pop fan than it sounds to a rock fan. I count myself as a fan of both genres, but I've never been a fan of instrumental solos in rock that last more than 30 seconds. Bores me to tears generally and IMO is usually the definition of "self-indulgent" or as an old boyfriend called it, "musical masturbation." In fact, if I'm watching a rock vid, I will ffwd through any lengthy instrumental solo. So I'd be fine if they nixed any such in the show. So as always, different strokes for different folks.
