Queen was pretty much frozen off of US Top 40 radio after the release of the "I Wand to Break Free" video in 1984 and associated press -- and did not have a single chart in the Top 40 from mid-1984 except for the reissue of Bohemian Rhapsody in 1991 -- and it charted on sales points. [Americans did not know anything about Coronation Street and the video led to a lot of press about Freddie being gay.] I point this out because for people under 30 in the US, they have very limited knowledge of Queen and their music. For many, all they know is Bohemian Rhapsody from Wayne World. *** I am a huge Queen fan and Freddie was one of my favs, but I would love it if they allowed Adam to sing Bohemian Rhapsody vs. using the video. Just wanted to point out a few things. First - while the Break Free story is semi-true - Americans didn't get the humor, it came out MUCH later that there was another hidden reason about Queen's drop in popularity. 1st. Paul Pretner - one of Freddie's hangerons became a prick to the media and speaking for Freddie and being very rude so the media stopped backing them. MORE importantly. Queen had a new record company in America (Capitol) JUST at that time Capitol decided to fight the usual radio schtick which had been in practice...basically record companies paying radio stations to play certain songs. Capitol refused to play ball...All of a sudden Radio Ga Ga which entered in at #16 and then the next week it was off the charts as the radio stations all dropped it to screw with Capitol. Queen never truly recovered. They made some ground back in 1989 and 1991 and then all the way back when Freddie died. With regards to BoRap...I think you'll ALWAYS be getting Fred on video. Brian always said that this was his baby and it's the perfect way for them to honor Freddie during the show. You should actually feel lucky...Paul never got to sing either of the first two verses

I've been over at MJs and the discussion of what Rock is and Adam's suitability to participate in it is just about endless. I just want to say that I appreciate the reasoned comments Q3 has added to the debate. I have to admit that I like reading the give and take as the anti-Adam folks make me laugh out loud when they say things like you can't be considered rock, or even, apparently, pop/rock, if you don't play an instrument.
The recent Adam career announcements have certainly resulted in a lot of hits for MJs.
As far as the H.A. person making pronouncements (they go beyond "predictions"), I am making a pronouncement of my own. I believe in time the mysterious oracle will be revealed to be Shoshanna herself. Just kidding.

While we are talking Adam and Rock.... what is the legal status of Time For Miracles? Adam never did seem terribly excited about that song but it did well in Asia where it got more exposure .... It certainly fits the Rock genre, to the best of my knowledge... and I do not think it belongs to RCA does it?? I don't know where I am going with this but it seems like it sure was a waste of a really good song....

Brian always said that this was his baby and it's the perfect way for them to honor Freddie during the show. You should actually feel lucky...Paul never got to sing either of the first two verses Funny coincidence is that in Fall 2011 RCA decided that they did not want to play the radio promo game anymore and the first artist that they tried to use the web to radio route on was Adam Lambert with his single BTIKM. They tried to recover with NCOE but still were too conservative with promo money. Just like Capital tried to do in 1984. Setting that aside, IHR Music Festival is a hits concert, so I expect that they will perform hits. On BoRap, a girl can dream. I know it is unlikely. And I know Adam is not Freddie. But that video is just not close to Freddie live who I was lucky enough to get to hear. But I love that song and to hearing it live and done well would be great. And Adam is a good vocal and hit the right emotional tone in London. A weird coincidence in my life -- is my first Queen concert was in Wilkes Barre PA, and my first Adam headline concert was in Wilkes Barre PA. Wilkes Barre PA is a small town, I have only been there 3 times and I have only seen 3 concerts there -- Queen and 2 Adam concerts. I hadn't though of it for years, but Queen did a cover of Jailhouse Rock (which was odd and great). Odd because US rock artists were not covering Elvis in 1974. It is a song I would love to hear/see Adam do with his full neo-Elvis on. More dream that will never happen.
