I agree JLo is pretty meh as a judge, but will.i.am is a sharp guy, very funny, knows the music business, and I've loved the Black Eyed Peas even before Fergie joined them. I think he could be good. I still wouldn't watch the show, though, unless Adam was a judge. Have you watched will.i.am as a judge? On The Voice UK he is terrible and just promotes himself. At least it seems that way to me. No, I didn't even know he was a judge on the Voice UK, just seen interviews. I trust your judgement; if he sucks as a judge on one show, he'll probably be just as big a disaster on Idol. Thanks for pointing that out, I don't watch any of the singing reality shows. I can't believe they make these decisions without extensive market research, but so many industry people, including Michael Orland and Michael Slezak, have said what a great judge Adam would be, I have to wonder if the producers were all just dropped on their heads as infants.

If this is true, it is much sadder for Idol than Adam. Adam will be just fine on his road to being iconic, but Idol passed up a chance to have an excellent panel that would help revive an aging show. I think Adam is in a very different position today vs. last year. He really does not need Idol. And while no single person can save Idol, I truly believe Adam could be part of a rebooting of the show. But if the panel is JLo, Keith, will.i.am and ?, I do not want Adam to be part of the death march of Idol.
Cause that panel will kill the show. THIS^^^^^^^
If this is going to be the panel then.....bye...bye...Idol

I’ve watched Idol since S2 and I will continue to watch till the “fat lady sings”. To me, this show gives some young person a chance…maybe not to be a star like Adam…but a chance to have a career doing something they love. It’s never been about the judges for me…it’s always been about the kids. They could have the Easter Bunny judge and I would still watch. If I don’t like the judges, I fast forward. I like watching the kids grow as performers and vote each week for the one or ones I think did best. I always try to support the ones who create a song or album, even if they weren’t my favorite. So…I hope these new groups of producers, directors, whatever gets their act together so more hopefuls get their chance. Of course, I do plan to buy a big screen TV if Adam is a judge!!! JS

I think will.i.am is a creative genius in some ways but he does not connect with people. I watched both seasons of The Voice UK - he is a parody. Definitely self-promoting. He completely took over the duet he did with his finalist - AFL could give him lessons.

squidbert, hi! Love your avi. makes me think of a steampunk Alice in Wonderland 8-)
I don't really watch Idol either, just lucked out with Adam's season (saw Satisfaction and was hooked!) Thankfully, as Q3 says, Adam doesn't seem to be in such need of Idol this year. He shows himself to be genuinely grateful to Idol which is all good...but it is also good for him to be perceived as growing beyond it. Not fair but he himself says there is stigma in "being seen as a reality show contestant". I think his judging will just seem like an extension of this, unlike the other "stars" being considered.

I respect him as a musician, producer and an artist but he really does not seem to connect. For me. I want judges who really care about the contestants -- and helping them get better.
