Just a thought on diversity, entertainment content and advertising -- it is one of those vastly complex issues that comes down to something simple -- buying power. The US is only 63% white, non-hispanic/latino -- no mass market product or entertainment property can easily disregard almost 40% of the market.
ETA: The US Census # referenced above relies on self-identification of race. It overstates the percent white. Genetic population studies indicate that about 30% of self-described "white" Americans are actually mixed race. Similarly almost all "black" Americans are mixed race. And the vast majority of American Hispanic/Latinos are mixed race -- although 53% are self-described as white. The result is that the majority of Americans are probably mixed race.
Honestly, Mariah Carey was a pretty terrible judge but a pretty good representative of an American -- 1/2 Irish American, 1/4 Venezuelan (Spanish/Native American/AfroVenezuelan) and 1/4 African American.

Thank you, Talon, for the giving us the high points of Roger's interview. I found this very interesting:
"CR: Let's cut straight to the chase, Roger - What is the status of Queen right now?
RT: I'm still in the band, but there's only two of us left, Brian and myself. And only one of us can walk! We still run the brand - that's what it is these days."
I do hope Brian's knee heals without pain, and then selfishly hope he and Roger will want to do a few more things with Adam. But I would not expect them to travel all that much. Actually, I am curious as to why they took this gig with iHeart. Is it because they will be promoting the Freddie/MJ record, or as a favor to Adam? For whatever reason, a great many of us are very happy they are doing it.

I won't be there! But @talcvids and likely others will be taking video. I suspect AFTEE will use audio recorded from the concert's audio mixing board. So it should have good clean sound and not overwhelmed by audience noises. |
