Boy George @boygeorge 20m That Macklemoore tune made me sit up watching the VMA's. that's what great pop music should always do. Emote!
Boy George @boygeorge 18m American radio told me my song 'Same Thing In Reverse' was too gay for radio. It's funny that only straight people can do the preaching!

Q3, I agree with your discussion of Raj Randolph's article. I'm sure he means well. But Macklemore and Lewis's "Same Love" (featuring Mary Lambert) was honored at the VMAs because it was a hit, and the video has countless views. Radio is playing it to death, because people liked the track, bought it on iTunes in (more than) sufficient quantities for program directors to notice. Plus there was a big grass roots campaign (that included gay activists) requesting radio stations add the song to their playlist. (I forget the exact number of emails, tweets, etc. but it was BIG). Still, I think the campaign to get the song on air would not have worked unless there had been the proof of sales to show its appeal.
I think if the Raj Randolph article had rung true and had struck a core with a LGBT readership, you would see an outpouring of response in agreement to it by the community instead of remarks by the same Adam fans who respond to every Adam mention.
I don't mean to offend anyone, but remember I am frequently a contrarian.
I also have to confess that I personally don't like "Same Love" that much, but I do understand it appeal and its importance.

I heard Same Love last year when it was first heard in the Seattle area as part of the marriage equality campaign. I like the song, but it seems to me more of a sort of novelty song; once I'd heard it a few times and knew the story it told, it got kind of stale. Outlaws of Love, on the other hand, works on so many levels it is almost a perfect anthem. Of course I MIT be just a little bit prejudiced in favor of Adam.

Q3: "Finally, I think one of the best things about the VMAs was that Adam (one of the most prominent gay artists and personalities in the US) was not put in the "gay ghetto" of giving out the award to Macklemore but was there as a singer and personality, NOT as a gay celeb. Isn't that what he wanted in the first place? To be a performer who was gay, not a gay performer?"
YES!!
