Can't answer the question about follower count but it may be because his recent focus has been on his digital network and not on adding Twitter followers. (Instagram, Weibo, etc.)

Adam is a global power on Twitter. In fact, using most ranking systems his account is one of the 100 most important accounts on Twitter. This is a bit mangled because I do not have time to format it -- but is if you look at IMPACT, he is #76 IN THE WORLD. This is based on link power, not just bot followers and dead account and etc.
