MNT is not high enough on iTunes for this strategy to work -- yet.
MTN is NOT high enough on the charts yet to make a gifting program sensible -- it is currently at peak of #83. It is still headed up but if it does not move into the 30's, same the money and effort for Adam next real single.
One of the challenges is the Glee released a 4-song EP for this episode so most Gleeks are buying that.
Without organic sales pushing MTN up to around 30, it is not possible to move it up the chart high enough to matter with a gifting campaign.
Why can't fans move a song way up the chart? Because to hit #10 on iTunes a track needs to sell about 20K-30K units a day. Fans just can't buy that much. And if they did, and iTunes saw sales of 20K gift tracks in one day for an artist who sold 5K in "normal" sales, iTunes/Soundscan could classify that as an attempt to manipulate the chart and not count them.

The goal is simple -- get MTN into the iTunes Top 10 Tracks. NOT the Pop track but on the main US and Canada charts. Other countries will have their turn when Adam's debut Glee episode is broadcast there. For right now, this is about North America.
AFTER the premiere of Adam's Glee episode, his iTunes track of "Marry the Night" should move up the chart significantly. We should not start buying and redeeming gift tracks until it moves way up the chart. If fans start too early, it will be a wasted effort (well except that iTunes will make a lot of money!!).
Why wait to buy? iTunes uses a declining weighted average to create their popularity chart. That means that a purchase has more importance if it occurred in the past hour, and less over time until it is worth nothing in about 24 hours. This means that if you buy the track on Wednesday night, it will not have any effect on the chart on Thursday midnight. The right time to buy and gift should be AFTER THE SHOW!!
What to do: Buy one track per iTunes account. If you want to buy more tracks, buy gifts.
If you want to have a gift count, you must give the gift track to someone in your own country. If you live in the US, you most give it to someone in the US. If you live in Canada, you must gift it to someone in Canada.
The gift track must be redeemed. So make sure that you gift it to someone who will redeem it!
DO NOT BUY ALL FOUR TRACKS FROM THIS EPISODE OR THE ALBUM and gift to the same account or it will count as an album, not a track sale.

MAKE SURE THE GIFT RECIPIENT REDEEMS THE TRACK. OTHERWISE IT WILL NOT COUNT.
IF YOU WANT TO REDEEM MULTIPLE GIFT TRACKS, YOU NEED TO DELETE THE TRACK BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD A NEW GIFT TRACK. You can download, delete, download, delete and so on for as long as you want and all the downloads will count.

Although you can only buy one iTunes track and have it count, you can receive more than one gift track and have it count.
We need people willing to redeem gift tracks: People who are willing to redeem gift tracks. To do this, set up an email to receive the gift messages.
