Is it a theory that this is Kurt's fantasy or has that been revealed? (Elliot did say he'd be whoever Kurt wants him to be . . . ) Spoilers confirm that scene is Kurt's fantasy. Also a new spoiler from GleekoutBrazil is confirming 05x09's title as 'Frenemies' and that Kurt and Elliot duet on 'I Believe In a Thing Called Love' ETA: LOL Im2718 I was just about to search for a good vid. He's an alien from the Planet Fierce. Of course. Or, the more pedantic answer, LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of training and practice. Mainly two things: Proper placement of voice/tone. If you sing using the proper technique to maximize your body's natural resonance and put the least strain on your vocal cords and throat muscles, you get a consistent sound despite moving around, dancing, etc. The second is breath support/control. It is essential to being a consistent singer in control of your voice. You need to produce a steady and efficient air stream that is not bounced and jarred by body movement or position. It takes a great deal of strength and endurance. When you couple that with proper resonance and technique, you don't have to force the notes with blasts of air that leave you breathless and gulping air in the midst of phrases or even syllables. Adam has impressive technique behind that gorgeous voice. This is why I roll my eyes just a bit when they talk about his natural talent. Yes, he naturally is gifted with a body that is capable of producing such rich, beautiful, soaring vocals. But the ONLY reason we are all able to hear and enjoy it is because Adam has obsessively trained and practiced for many years. As much as any world-class concert violinist, pianist or opera singer. Cassie….. a question for you. I think I read or heard, here or somewhere else….LOL (not sure now) that when Adam does the 'fish gulping' thing with his mouth when he has time during a song (not in the midst of phrases, but when the song allows), that that is a quick and efficient way for him to take in more air? True? ETA: the reason I ask is because I have seen some say they wish he wouldn't do the 'stank face' so much, but I always thought he was taking in more air. I have to confess I hate the "fish gulping" thingy. Others have called it an orgasm face but "fish gulp" seems more accurately descriptive. And no, it has absolutely nothing to do with gulping for air. Nada. First of all, Adam sings so correctly that he doesn't become short of breath as if he were running. He doesn't have to suck in a lot of air to make up for the last verse or prepare for the next one. In fact, that is not possible (unless he really does have a third lung that stores the extra air until needed). I know that swimmers and other athletes may take a series of deep breaths before exerting themselves, but that is to saturate the blood with oxygen. A singer doesn't run out of oxygen when singing. He runs out of air to pass over the vocal cords and produce sound. Secondly, trained singers are taught to take breaths as unobtrusively as possible. And only a fraction of a second before starting the phrase. The only time one should notice the breathing is if it is done for dramatic effect. So, the "stank face" is stylistic. (And not to my taste, but obviously, Adam thinks it is hard core rocker.)
