I don't think Brian meant that as an insult to Adam. The fact is Adam is not a good fit to play Freddie. He can handle the vocal duties, of course, but he doesn't look anything like Freddie. Also, Brian said in subsequent interviews that they wanted someone who would not be readily recognizable -- a less well-known actor who could more easily disappear into the part. Neither Adam nor Sacha Baron Cohen, the original choice, would fit the bill. The actor that they are supposedly considering, Ben Whishaw, is an accomplished British actor, but not a household name outside of the UK. He's probably best known in the US for playing "Q" in "Skyfall", the last James Bond movie. And he has a much stronger physical resemblance to Freddie, and has both the acting skills and the accent to play the role.
And really, I would prefer that Adam not play Freddie anyway. I think performing with Queen is great, and has been very good for Adam, but that's as far as I think the connection should go. I think Adam needs to continue to forge his own career as an independent artist. You put into words what I couldn't ![]() I very much agree with you ![]() It's a risky business for any actor to play Freddie, such a legend. |

Brian has mentioned who they have/ want for the Freddie bio.... Some sleuth on Atop probably has it book marked. He discounted Adam...implying they are looking for a real actor. That was a time I was ticked about what Brian said....although
I do get Adam has not proven himself in that area. Mama bear kicking in! Haha Well everyone has to get their start to become credible for movie /TV work. Yes, there have been mixed live action/animation films. So voiceover for "Jungle Book" could still be a "possibility".
I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I have worked as a financial analyst my entire adult life. So I am trained to always look for "the facts". But like everyone here, I hope that"Glee" alerts Hollywood to Adam's potential.

I so agree with this and your previous post! I wish everyone would be able to hold their horses and be happy for the great news that there are interest and offers. That sounds very good!!! I believe that because this news it put out there the offers are interesting too - but other than that... IMO we do have to wait what will be the outcome before picking roles etc. |

iridium, augenpoesie, rpeura Back to the discussion re acting for Adam.... I am in total agreement with you folks on not wishing Adam to play Freddie. I was only ticked for a moment re Brian's comment  ...and when I thought about it logically....my sentiments matched yours. I was really just letting that person know that they have someone in mind anyway, and Adam was not in the plan. And thanks for the reminder as to Brian's other re comments re the choice of actor and why that person was chosen. I did not tuck that into my brain....but it is there now! More significantly, to add to my words of admiration for his role in Glee thus far... Adam is finding his own way to break into acting, and it has been stellar so far. So thank you to whomever... the producers of Glee? Adam's management team sourcing opportunities? some random link with somebody who knew somebody? I sure don't care... I am just happy for Adam he is having this first opportunity in a series TV show, to learn, to share his talents and ideas, and to kick ass doing so!! (It does not hurt to have people say he is loved by the Glee folk)![]() The future??? one step at a time! But the first building blocks and base are being formed! |
